DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH

Want to live to be 100 and be happy and healthy while you're doing it? Here are six secret keys to your very own fountain of youth, from researcher Dan Buettner, author of the National Geographic bestseller, "The Blue Zones":

  • Laugh long and often -- Not only is it fun, but a good, long giggle relaxes blood vessels and lowers your risk of heart attack.
  • Nosh on nuts -- Studies of a Seventhday Adventist group in California found that those who ate small portions of nuts five days a week lived an average of two years longer than those who didn't.
  • Cherish your friends -- Keep a tight knit circle of close buddies around you visit often and share your innermost hopes and fears. "Gather people around you who will reinforce your lifestyle," advises Buettner.
  • Eat wisely -- Okinawas, who boast an unusually high number of healthy seniors over 100, begin every meal by saying, "Hara hachi bu!" The saying translates to "Eat until you're 80% full!" Buettner recommends eating slowly off smaller plates to make smaller meals satisfying.
  • Stay active - You don't have to run marathons or schedule gym time. Just make physical activities long walks, puttering in the garden or playing with kids a part of your regular routine.
  • Live like you mean it -- "Across the board, those living the longest had a clear sense of purpose," Buettner explains. "You have to know why you get up every morning." Find ways to connect with things you feel passionate about and get involved.

KFLAG COUNTRY MUSIC UPDATE!!!!

Jason Aldean will debut his new single, called "Dirt Road Anthem," during the live broadcast of the ACM Awards on Sunday (April 3rd) night. The song is the third release from his platinum-selling My Kinda Party CD, following on the heels of his Number One hit, "Don't You Wanna Stay," featuring Kelly Clarkson.

  • "Dirt Road Anthem" encompasses Jason's influences from Snoop Dogg to Charlie Daniels. He said, "I always get excited to test new songs out on the road. This one is a little different because it kicks off with the chorus, so everyone starts sorta grooving along with it, and then we hit that first verse with the rapid fire lyrics, and the fans go nuts. I know we're pushing some boundaries with a song like this, but I also think people expect that from me now. I'm really taking the fans' lead on this one, but I think it's going to be a killer single for us on the road this summer."
  • The ACM Awards air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on CBS.
  • Jason is nominated for Entertainer and Top Male Vocalist.

Justin Moore can't wait for fans to hear his sophomore album. The CD features 13 new songs, 11 of which Justin wrote. Justin tells us that at the last minute he decided to add three songs, one of which is his current hit single. "I'm excited about it. I think it's the best songwriting I've ever done. We had 10 songs done for it, and I'd written all 10 of the songs, and I heard the song 'If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away', which is the first single off of it and I thought, 'My gosh, I've gotta go cut this,' and I went to the label and said, 'I need to cut like three more songs,' and they're like, 'Huh?', and I was like, 'I promise you. Just trust me, and this needs to be the first single, by the way!'"

  • "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away" is a Top 20 hit and climbing on the charts.
  • Justin's new CD will be released later this year.
  • He is currently out on Miranda Lambert's The Revolution Continues tour along with special guestJosh Kelley.

For the second year in a row, Toby Keith is up for Entertainer of the Year at the ACM Awardson Sunday (April 3rd). Toby, for one, is very happy that the honor is now fan-voted. He tells us:"It's wonderful to have the fans vote on that stuff. (Over the) last several years I haven't been an award-friendly guy. I gave up on 'em years ago, but I said all along, if you let the fans vote on it no one can complain. If you don't get nominated or you don't win then you can't gripe about it, you know?"

Toby says that letting the fans rather than the industry decide on the night's biggest award is only fair."Politics playin' in to music -- there's no place for it. It's a fan-based industry. We all survive off of our fans, you know? If you didn't win or didn't get nominated work a little harder next year, and that solves all the problems, so it's wonderful that the ACMs is allowing this stuff to happen."

  • Toby last won Entertainer of the Year in 2003.
  • Fan voting for this category continues through Sunday at voteacm.com.
  • Toby will also perform live during the ACM Awards show broadcast from Las Vegas on CBS.

Bramblett had told media outlets that if Willie performed his classic hit, "Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain," in their courtroom they would let him off with a minor fine.

GEORGE CLOONEY MAY TESTIFY IN ITALIAN SEX TRIAL

George Clooney thinks it's "odd" that he might be called to testify in a sex trial against Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. The actor and his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis have been named potential witnesses in the case because Burlosconi's young accuser, Karima el-Mahroug, claims she saw the couple at a dinner party held at Berlusconi's home.

Clooney has a home in Italy's Lake Como.

The actor said of his inclusion on the potential witness list, "It seems odd since I've only met Berlosconi once and that was in an attempt to get aid into Darfur."

  • Several dozen alleged prostitutes were also named on the potential witness list alongside Clooney. The trial begins on April 6th.

MATTHEW WEINER RESPONDS TO 'MAD MEN' DRAMA

Matthew Weiner is speaking out to dispell the rumors surrounding Mad Men's fifth season. AMC announced that a deal had been reached for season five, however it won't hit the air until 2012 -- and Weiner, the creator, has reportedly yet to officially sign on.

He told the Mad Men blog Basket of Kisses, "There's been a lot of speculation and misinformation in the press about what is going on. I want the fans to know directly from me that I had nothing to do with this delay and it is not about money. I am fighting for the cast and for the show. And I appreciate the kindness and concern of the fans."

It was reported that AMC wants to cut 2 minutes from the show to allow for more commercials -- and wants Weiner to trim two cast roles to save money. Weiner also said that his rumored $30 million salary offer is inaccurate. He said, "I offered to have less money, to save the cast, and to leave the show in the running time that it's supposed to be. The harder that I've fought for the show, the more money that they've offered me."

  • Weiner's last note to fans: "Everyone can hold on, and we'll see if it's necessary, but of course I would want them to express their feelings. I can't even tell you what it's meant to me to have intelligent people who care about the show, who reflect about it, who obsess about it, it's been a total surprise to me. It's surpassed everything I would ever have expected."

HEADLINE NEWS!

OBAMA AUTHORIZED COVERT SUPPORT FOR LIBYAN REBELS: Media reports said yesterday (March 30th) that President Obama has authorized covert support for the Libyan rebels, signing a secret order known as a presidential "finding" within the past two or three weeks. Findings are a form of presidential directive used to authorize secret operations by the CIA, a necessary legal step before such action can be taken. However, it doesn't mean it will take place, since in order for specific operations to be carried out, such as giving weapons to the rebels, the White House would have to give additional permission. The New York Times also reported that the CIA had inserted small groups of operatives in Libya with British special forces to gather intelligence for the NATO-led airstrikes.

Also yesterday, Libya's high-profile foreign minister, Moussa Koussa, defected to Britain in what a friend said was a protest against the attacks by Moammar Gadhafi's forces on civilians. A former spy chief, Koussa could provide valuable intelligence on Gadhafi's government. Reuters also cited a Western diplomat as saying Koussa's move sends a message to other Gadhafi loyalists that they could still defect.

Gaddafi's troops continued to push back the rebels, the second time they've reversed the opposition forces' gains using their superior firepower. U.S. officials said the government forces have responded to the airstrikes by making themselves harder to target, using minivans, sedans and SUVS fitted with weapons instead of tanks.

JAPAN PRESSED TO EXPAND EVACUATION ZONE AROUND NUCLEAR PLANT: The Japanese government is being pressured to expand the evacuation zone around the crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant. Both the United Nations' nuclear watchdog and Japan's own nuclear safety agency, as well as opposition politicians, have said the 12-mile evacuation zone should be expanded, after high radiation was detected at twice that distance. So far, more than 70,000 people have been evacuated from the 12-mile zone around the plant, and another 136,000 in the six miles beyond that have been encouraged to leave, or to stay indoors. Meanwhile, officials said radiation may be flowing continuously from the plant into the sea nearby, where contamination is now 4,000 times the legal limit. Engineers have not yet found the source of the leaks.

PROGRESS MADE IN BUDGET TALKS TO AVOID GOV'T. SHUTDOWN: A government shutdown is now appearing less likely, as Vice President Joe Biden yesterday (March 30th) reported what he called "good progress" in the budget talks. Congressional negotiators began work on a proposal for a reported $33 billion in spending cuts over the next six months, representing compromise on both sides. It's well below the $60 million-plus that tea party-backed freshman GOPers were demanding, but it also a significant increase from where the Senate Democrats and the Obama administration began, which was backing a freeze at current rates. However, both sides agreed the $33 billion figure is tentative, and not everyone is on board with compromise.

TODAY'S FYI:

FIRST REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE POSTPONED: The first scheduled Republican presidential debate, which had been planned for May 2nd at the Ronald Reagan presidential library in California, is being postponed until September because only one candidate has so far announced that he's running. The debate, now planned for September 14th, will still take place in the Reagan library. Former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty last week became the first major contender to announce he'd formed a presidential exploratory committee. Other expected candidates, including former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, have been slow to make it official. A debate scheduled for May 5th in South Carolina is, for now, still on, and would be the first GOP debate.

LEAD CODICES COULD BE ANCIENT CHRISTIAN TEXTS: British archeologists are trying to authenticate a collection of 70 codices -- or bound books -- made of lead that were discovered five years ago in a cave in eastern Jordan that could be ancient Christian texts. The codices, which are made up of wirebound individual pages that are each about the size of a credit card, appear to date from the 1st century. They include several images and written references to the Messiah, as well as some possible references to the crucifixion and resurrection. Initial testing on the lead indicates that the codices are about 2,000 years old, but more work is being done to confirm their authenticity. However, David Elkington, an ancient religion scholar who heads the British research team investigating the find, seems convinced, telling the Daily Mail that it's, quote, "the major discovery of Christian history."

CARTER'S CUBAN VISIT DOESN'T LEAD TO RELEASE OF JAILED AMERICAN: Former PresidentJimmy Carter left Cuba Wednesday (March 30th) without winning the release of a U.S. government contractor who's been jailed in the communist nation for 16 months. Carter had said from the beginning, however, that he knew Alan Gross wouldn't be freed during his visit, however he did meet with Gross, who was working on a USAID-funded democracy building program when he was arrested in December 2009. He was convicted of bringing communications equipment into Cuba illegally and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Carter was in Cuba to talk about strained ties with the U.S., and met with Fidel Castro as well as his brother Raul, who's the nation's current leader. But he also met with members of Cuban's opposition community and religious leaders.

BUSH INSTITUTE HOLDING CONFERENCE ON AFGHAN WOMEN: The George W. Bush Institute in Dallas is holding a conference this week on helping Afghan women achieve economic success, with some 250 people, including government, business and nonprofit leaders, set to attend. Also taking part will be former President Bush and his wife. Former first lady Laura Bush is a longtime supporter of women's rights in Afghanistan, and has continued to participate in the U.S.-Afghan Women's Council formed by her husband and Karzai. She told AP about the conference, "What we're hoping is to show our strong support for women in the economy." Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai will address the conference attendees via video.

BREAST-FEEDING DOLL HITS STORES: Some parents are outraged by a new breast-feeding doll aimed at little girls. The doll, "Breast Milk Baby," comes with a special halter top that has a flower shaped sensor where nipples would be. When the doll's mouth gets close to the flower shaped sensor, it mimics the noises and movements of a baby drinking milk. A spokesman from the toy company that makes the doll says, "Breast-feeding was a normal part of life before a few greedy pharmaceutical companies tried to make it rich selling artificial milk. A girl who plays with a breast-feeding baby now will think this is the normal way to feed a baby." Child psychiatrist Ned Hallowell said that the doll isn't sexualizing, noting that it's no different than "a little boy standing next to his father shaving and putting on shaving cream." Some people posted messages online claiming the doll encourages children to get pregnant. (UPI)

Investigators did find a ketchup stain and pieces of cheeseburger on the road where the incident allegedly took place. The suspect reportedly told police, "I threw a cheeseburger at that (racial epithet) truck. He pissed me off and if I have to go to jail for it then that's OK." (Sun-Sentinel)

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW....

WOMEN TURN INTO MOM AT 32? Women think that they 'turn into their mother' at age 32. Researchers polled 1,000 adults and found that the early thirties is the time when women begin to take on their mom's particular habits, phrases and behaviors, according to the Daily Mail. Nearly 40% of women admitted using their mothers' expressions and a quarter even claimed to talk this way with their boyfriends and husbands. Other women found themselves becoming worriers, stocking up on groceries and becoming strangely intrigued by soap operas. (Times of India)

FAKE GIRLFRIENDS FOR FACEBOOK: A new internet company helps men create a fake Facebook girlfriend. The new service, 'Cloud Girlfriend' allows users to create the perfect girlfriend who will write on your Facebook wall and otherwise make her ghostly presence known through social media. Cloud Girlfriend has yet to officially launch, but the site is already generating interest. However -- Facebook's Terms of Service agreement strictly prohibits computer controlled accounts, which would seemingly rule out cyber-based special lady friends.

According to the site, this is how it works:

  • "Step 1: Define your perfect girlfriend. Step 2: We bring her into existence. Step 3: Connect and interact with her publicly on your favorite social network. Step 4: Enjoy a public long distance relationship with your perfect girl."

SLEEP MORE AND LOSE WEIGHT? A study has found that a good night's rest is a key factor in the battle of the bulge. Men and women who had at least six hours' sleep a night and coped well with the stresses of everyday life were twice as likely to lose weight when put on a diet for six months. It is thought that between six and eight hours' sleep helps keep the hormones that keep the feelings of being full and hungry in balance -- and reducing stress stops us from bingeing on comfort foods.

BEING FUNNY IS THE KEY TO SOLVING PROBLEMS: Humor helps you solve problems more effectively. Neuroscientists observing the ability of subjects to solve word problems found that people were most likely to suddenly come up with answers if they were amused (having just watched a comedy routine). Study author Mark Beeman suggested that levity allows the brain to make more remote connections than it otherwise would, which helps us arrive at those moments of insight. (AskMen.com)
