While in New York on Thursday (April 26th), Carrie Underwood stopped by PS22 in Staten Island to perform her single "Good Girl" with their fifth grade choir. The PS22 choir is made up of 65 students, and Carrie spent an hour-and-a-half working with the kids to get the song right. She said, "My experience at PS22 has been absolutely amazing. It just made my heart happy to be here . . . I think myself and everyone else in the music industry right now need to be worried because they're getting older and (they're) going to put us all out of a job."
Carrie's new album, Blown Away, will be in stores tomorrow (Tuesday, May 1st). While excited for the fans to hear her new collection of music, Carrie admits to us that she's feeling a bit anxious with mere hours to go until CD release. "At this point I'm nervous, just because I took more time making this album, and I feel like I've been listening to some of these songs for a year-plus already, so they are . . . Like, the shiny has worn off for me. I'm still so excited, and when I get feedback and other people start listening to it. A few radio people listened to it and they like tweet and then everybody gets excited. That re-energizes me and gets me more excited, but at this point it's that moment of, 'Oh my gosh, is it good? Is it?' I mean, seriously like, I don't know. I've been listening to it so long I'm not sure. I start second-guessing myself now. I've been so confident up until now, but now it's like crunch time. There's nothing more we can do, so I want it to be as awesome as I thought it was six months ago (laughs)."]
  • Carrie will be making the media rounds in the coming weeks. Tonight (Monday, April 30th), she visits with David Letterman.

  • The first single from Blown Away, "Good Girl," is a Top Eight hit and climbing on the country charts.
  • The song, which Carrie co-wrote, has already been certified gold for sales of more than half a million copies.

Keith Urban has been spending a little time Down Under to film episodes of Australia's version of The Voice. He tells us that while the travel is extensive, working on the show itself is not quite as time-consuming as everyone thinks.
"The filming time of The Voice is quite short. The blind auditions were like 12 days, not even the whole shooting time. The whole shooting time was four days, but the preparation and all that other stuff (takes more time). We were down there for 12 days and then we flew back. And when we looked at the schedule, we went 'Well, we'll go down for two weeks, and then we'll come back to Nashville for two weeks. And then we'll go back down for another two weeks.' And then we suddenly went, 'Well, this is crazy. We're never going to make it all the way to Nashville with our kids and then all the way back down to Sydney with our kids.' So, we thought, 'Well, what should we do? Should we just stay down there? Or what should we do?' And we've got a place in L.A. that we occasionally go to, and we just decided we'll go back to there, 'cause that's one flight - Sydney-L.A. direct. So we sort of based ourselves there, but I was in writing mode, so I just basically flew people from Nashville out to write with me. (laughs) So I was able to keep working."
  • There is no word yet on when Keith's new album will be released.
  • In the meantime, he is quickly climbing the country charts with "For You," which appears on the soundtrack for the film, Act of Valor.
  • Keith was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry earlier this month.

Lady Antebellum will open for music icon Bruce Springsteen on July 14th for a sold-out concert at Hyde Park. The event is part of this year's Hard Rock Calling festival in London, UK.
Getting to perform on the same bill with Bruce is definitely a dream come true for the trio, as Hillary Scottand Charles Kelley tell us: "(Hillary) It's on our bucket list! (Charles) Yes! So, so huge. I mean, Bruce is, I've seen him several times. Every time he comes to Nashville, I see him, and he's one of my biggest influences. We actually covered, 'I'm on Fire,' I think, a couple of years ago on our tour, for every show, about 50 shows in a row. I don't think we'll pull out that cover that night, but it's a huge honor. Big influence, (and) one of the best songwriters of all time."
  • Lady A is taking their Own The Night 2012 World tour overseas beginning with a two-night stand in Dublin on June 10th and 11th.
  • The Own The Night album is quickly approaching double platinum for sales of more than two million copies.

U.S. WON'T SAY WHETHER SHELTERING ESCAPED CHINESE DISSIDENT: The Obama administration won't say whether the U.S. is sheltering an escaped Chinese dissident at the U.S. embassy in Beijing, as has been reported. Chen Guangcheng, who has exposed forced abortions and sterilizations in villages as a result of China's one-child policy, escaped house arrest a week ago in eastern China. Chinese-based activists say he was driven away by supporters and then handed over to others who brought him to Beijing. In an appearance on Fox News Sunday, Obama's counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan, did say, "I think in all instances the president tries to balance our commitment to human rights, making sure that the people throughout the world have the ability to express themselves freely and openly, but also that we can continue to carry out our relationships with key countries overseas." Chen's escape comes ahead of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Treasury SecretaryTimothy Geithner heading to China this week for strategic and economic talks.

Authorities are trying to determine what caused the accident that killed a couple in their 80s, their 45- and 39-year-old daughters, and three grandchildren. The older of the daughters was driving. The SUV was traveling south on the Bronx River Parkway when it bounced off the median, crossed three lanes and hit the curb, causing it to go airborne, continue over the guardrail and plunge to the ground. The mayor of Amsterdam, which is world-famous for its "coffee shops" where pot is legally sold, is trying to work out a compromise with the national government, while a lawyer for the coffee shops' owners is planning to appeal the ruling. The government says the move is intended to crack down on drug tourists, who come over the border from Belgium and Germany to buy large quantities of marijuana and then take it home and sell it, and return the pot shops to the small local stores for local people that they were originally intended to be.
THEORY FOR WHY SO FEW ARE LET-HANDED: New research for Northwestern University has come up with a theory for why so few people are left-handed, about 10 percent, and why that's remained constant for thousands of years. The idea is that the low percentage of left-handedness is a result of the balance between cooperation and competitiveness in human evolution. Humans had an evolutionary need to cooperate, such as sharing tools or hunting in groups, and if most people use the same hand, it makes cooperation either. However, we're not totally cooperative, and the competitiveness in us accounts for there being lefties, since physical competition favors the unusual, so being left-handed confers and advantage. Researchers noted that in sports like boxing, fencing and ping-pong, lefties are overrepresented, up around 20 percent, while in sports where handedness isn't a factor, like golf, the percentage of lefties is low.

Marek Olszewski reportedly made an appointment with Mackowiak, for a toothache, not long after he dumped her. Mackowiak allegedly gave him an anesthetic, removed all his teeth, then -- to cover it up -- she wrapped his head in bandages. She told reporters, "I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions. But when I saw him lying there I just thought, 'What a b**tard'."Olszewski said he couldn't feel his teeth when he woke up but was told by his ex that it was due to the anesthetic. He explained, "I didn't have any reason to doubt her. I mean, I thought she was a professional. But when I got home I looked in the mirror and I couldn't f**king believe it. The b*tch had emptied my mouth." Mackowiak could get up to three years in jail. (Digital Spy)

  • When eating out regularly with a group of pals, the default is to split the bill evenly. Over time any minor differences should come out in the proverbial wash. (But avoid friends who are gluttons or drunks - for all kinds of reasons.)
  • Choose a restaurant that's within everyone's reach , which services like Open Table make one-click easy. (Just filter for the number of dollar signs that match your price range.) There's no reason to further pinch those who earn less or are unemployed and remember this: five-star friends are more important than a five-star dining experience.
  • Don't order the most expensive entrĂ©e on the menu, like the obscene $1,000 omelet at Norma's in New York, stuffed with lobster and caviar, and then expect your pals who had the steel-cut oatmeal to subsidize you. If you don't take my advice, then you must overcompensate for your voracity - and by that I mean insist on paying more than the others.
  • Pay attention to what your friends are eating and drinking. Did one of them only have a cup of gazpacho and a glass of house red while the rest of you ordered the four-course prix fixe with wine pairings? If so, the right thing to do is to speak up and suggest that they pay the cost of their meal (plus tax and tip) while the rest of you divide up the remainder of the bill.
  • If you're consistently on the short end of the stick (for example, if you're the tee-totaller among heavy drinkers), don't shy away from saying something like, "I'm more comfortable covering what I ordered," than paying twice your share.

DRINKING WATER MAKES YOU PERFORM BETTER: A study presented at the British Psychological Society's annual conference found that students who drank water during tests performed 10 percent better than those students who didn't. Researchers say the results can apply to situations outside of school, like job interviews and meetings. (

CHILDREN WHO GET QUALITY CHILD CARE DO BETTER IN SCHOOL: A new University of Texas study showed that children who got high quality care before they headed to school were more prepared to start school and even had mothers who were more involved with their schooling. The researchers used surveys, observations and physical exmas to analyze children from birth to age 4 1/2. Robert Crosnoe, who led the study, said, "Mothers tended to be more school-involved when their children had longer histories of high-quality care since birth. High quality care is important on many levels. And this is true for people who need care for practical reasons, like parents who work and, for example, parents who want to expose their children to peers or who are seeking enriching preschool environments for their kids." What percentage of American workers get 6 hours of sleep or less per night?
A: 30%
That's 40.6 million U.S. adults who are getting 6 hours of sleep or less per night. The National Sleep Foundation recommends 7 to 9 hours a night. Most at risk of sleep-deprivation: night shift workers, especially in the transportation, warehousing and health care industries. Divorced, separated or widowed people and those with more than one job are also more likely to be short-sleepers. The dangers? Drowsy driving contributes to 20% of car crashes, and chronic sleeplessness increases the risk for obesity, heart disease, diabetes and depression. (Source:

Obama, Kimmel Deliver Jokes at Annual White House Correspondents' Dinner
President Obama and late night host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel delivered jokes Saturday night (April 28th) at the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington. Obama made a few jabs at his assumed re-election opponent, presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney:
  • "It's great to be here this evening in the vast, magnificent Hilton ballroom -- or what Mitt Romney would call a little fixer-upper."
  • "We both have degrees from Harvard. I have one, he has two. What a snob." (That was also a jab at former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum, who'd called Obama a snob for encouraging young people to to to college.)
  • Obama introduced a fake political attack ad against himself that plays off the story of Romney strapping the family dog in a crate to the top of the car during a family trip in 1983. The ad defended the freedom of a dog to feel the wind in his fur, and showed Obama's dog, Bo, looking miserable at having to ride in government cars as pat of, quote, "European-style dog socialism." A final image showed Romney on the stairs of Air Force One with a dog crate on top.
Among other quips, Obama also joked about: the recent Secret Service prostitution scandal, saying, "I have to get the Secret Service home in time for their new curfew"; a recent diplomatic trip to Colombia in which Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was photographed drinking a beer and dancing, saying, "She can't stop drunk texting me from Cartagena"; and got in a two-fer that included the recent talk about him writing in his book that when he a child, his Indonesian stepfather had given him dog meat to try andSarah Palin, saying, "What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? A pit bill is delicious."
"Even Sarah Palin's getting back into the game, guest hosting on the Today show. Which reminds me of an old saying, What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? A pit bull is delicious."
"I'm not gonna attack any of the Republican candidates. Take Mitt Romney. He and I actually have a lot in common. We both think of our wives as our better halves, and polls show to an alarmingly insulting extent, the American people agree. We also both have degrees from Harvard. I have, he has two. What a snob."
"Recently his campaign criticized me for slow-jamming the news with Jimmy Fallon. In fact, I understand Governor Romney was so incensed he asked his staff if he could get some equal time on The Merv Griffin Show.
When it was his turn, Kimmel launched verbal jabs at several targets, including the president:
  • "You remember when the country rallied around you in hopes of a better tomorrow? That was hilarious."
  • "There's a term for guys like President Obama. Probably not two terms."
  • Riffing off the Obama dog meat flap, "When you got to a dog park, is this the same as when we look at a tank full of lobsters?"
"I want to thank the Washington Hilton for hosting us tonight. You know, President Obama wanted to move the dinner to the Kennedy Center this year, but the Republicans wanted to keep it here at the Hilton, so they compromised, and here we are at the Hilton."
"But it's an honor to be here, you know if you told me when I was a kid that I would be sitting on the same dais with President Barack Obama, I would have said, 'The president's name is Barack Obama?'" (Laughter) "Mr. President, you remember when the country rallied around you in hopes of a better tomorrow? That was hilarious." (Laughter) "That was your best one yet."

Is 'Game of Thrones' Overdoing the Nudity?
HBO's medieval drama Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin's fantasy series of books, is a hit that's already in its second season. But along with praise, it's also drawn some notice and criticism for the frequent female nudity in the show. Washington Post columnist Anna Holmes is among the critics, writing last week of the nudity, "Frequent and often outlandish, the show's eroticism often overshadows or distracts from the actual story." She noted that Saturday Night Live has taken notice, running a fake promo in an episode earlier this month that joked that Game of Thrones' success is partly attributable to a 13-year-old boy who's a creative consultant. Holmes also pointed out that it's almost entirely the women taking off their clothes, saying a male character has only gotten naked once. Calling it all, quote, "wearying and numbing," Holmes wrote, "It's a constant reminder and reinforcement of the fact that pop-culture creators make content mainly for heterosexual men and then, maybe, for everyone else."

Tickets for Lady Antebellum's Rebuilding Henryville Charity Ball are on sale today (Friday, April 27th) at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. The benefit show will take place on May 16th in Louisville, Kentucky, and all ticket sale proceeds will go to the Tornado Relief Efforts in Henryville, Indiana. The show first began as a contest between high schools to have Lady A perform at their Prom. After receiving videos from neighboring high schools, Henryville High was chosen as the winner and the idea for an even bigger event was born.
The band is happy to be able to give Henryville a helping hand, as Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott tell us: "(Charles) Man, we're just so excited to be able to, to be playing for the community there in Henryville, and our thoughts go out to them. And we kinda just wanted to do something to bring a little joy and excitement to the community. (Hillary) Yeah, it'll be really cool to see hopefully a lot of smiling faces, and anything we can do to try to help them forget - for even just for a few minutes - all of the things that they've been through over the past few weeks and just give them joy and put smiles on their faces. That'll be absolutely the coolest feeling in the world."
  • The trio has been off the road for a couple of weeks. They'll return to their Own The Night 2012 World tour with a two-night stand in New York City on May 3rd and 4th.
  • Lady A are currently "dancing" their way to the top of the country charts with their latest single, "Dancin' Away With My Heart."

  • Dave Haywood got married during the trio's break from the road. He and Kelly Cashiola said their "I dos" on April 14th on a farm located outside of Nashville.

The Barnstable Brown Gala will be held on May 4th in Louisville, Kentucky.
You may recall that Ashton presented Miranda with her Female Vocalist of the Year award, after which she tweeted, "Was Ashton Kutcher making fun of country or is it just me? Watching it back now and I'm kinda wondering?" Miranda was referring to Ashton's old-school traditional country getup, and his attempt to sing a few lines of George Strait's "I Cross My Heart."
Ashton quickly tweeted back, "I Am One Of The biggest country Music fans you've ever met. Wasn't making fun at all."

Miranda Lambert is among this year's World's Most Beautiful Women in the special issue ofPeople magazine. She said, "I'm representing normal girls. It's OK to have a little bit of curve. I'm happy with my body. So many girls come up to me and say, 'Thank you, for being normal.' I'm proud of that." Beyonce is featured on the magazine's cover as the Number One World's Most Beautiful Woman. Other beauties featured inside the magazine include Charlize Theron, Sofia Vergara, Christina Hendricks and Michelle Williams. The World's Most Beautiful Women issue ofPeople hits newsstands today (Friday, April 27th).
The Band Perry are in New Orleans, Louisiana this week shooting the video for their latest single, "Postcard From Paris." Kimberly, Neil and Reid Perry tweeted a couple of pictures of themselves, one at the city's famous French market and coffee stand Cafe Du Monde, which will appear in the video, and another of them riding bicycles in the street. There is no word yet on when the video will be released. "Postcard From Paris" is the debut single from The Band Perry's upcoming sophomore album.

Love and Theft members Stephen Barker Liles and Eric Gunderson will be featured on Sunday's (April 29th) episode of the ABC comedy-drama, GCB. The duo performs their new single, "Angel Eyes," during a scene in the show, which stars Kristin Chenoweth, Leslie Bibb, Annie Potts, Miriam Shor, Jennifer Aspen and Marisol Nichols.
Eric tells us how this special guest appearance came about: "We got a call just saying they wanted to use our song 'Angel Eyes' for like one of the main scenes in, I guess, the ninth episode of the season, so we went out there and we actually got to perform the song on the show. It was great! I guess it was the religious barbecue invitational or something, it's where they go do this big barbecue cook-off thing and I guess we're the entertainment for the show so we got to hang out for two days and shoot different scenes and stuff. It was like our first acting performance-type thing, so it was really cool."
Stephen says that getting to experience life as an actor makes him appreciate being a musician. "We're gonna have some face time on the episode. It was pretty fun! It was cool being there for two days and seeing that side of it that made me really like really grateful that we're doing music. It made me realize why a lot of these actors want to be musicians (laughs), because it's like hurry up and wait, and they have no personal time cause they literally just have to be there all day for like a 30-second shot. For me, I was like, 'Thank you Lord I'm doing music (laughs).'"]
GCB airs on ABC on Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.
  • "Angel Eyes" is the debut single from Love and Theft's upcoming self-titled album, which will be released on July 24th.
  • Love and Theft is up for a CMT Music Award for Duo Video of the Year for "Angel Eyes." The CMT Music Awards will air live from Nashville on CMT and on June 6th.

So when Phil asked my husband if I'd like to be a part of this, I was delighted! I already knew -- and loved -- the song!"
