Taylor Swift might be taking this Halloween to catch her breath after a whirlwind album release-week which included national TV appearances on both coasts to promote Red. Just last night (Tuesday, October 30th), she was in Los Angeles to perform on Dancing With The Stars and tomorrow night (Thursday, November 1st) she will perform her new single, "Begin Again," on the CMA Awards in Nashville, where she's also a nominee.
Taylor's trick-or-treating days might be behind her, but she recalls her best Halloween memory, which actually just happened a few years ago. "I think my favorite Halloween memory was from when I was about 18 and I think my second album had just come out, and my best friend, Abigail, and I decided to go trick-or-treating around the neighborhood that we always used to trick-or-treat in, and so we dressed up as Chewbaccas and we had like the full body costumes on and the masks and nobody knew who we were, and it was hilarious because, you know, people . . . It's interesting how people treat you when you're in a Chewbacca costume and they don't know who you are and they'll just like laugh at you, and I wanna be like, 'Ha ha, well, you're dressed as me, so . . . ' (laughs)."
Taylor is nominated for Entertainer, Female Vocalist and Musical Event of the Year at the CMA Awards. The show airs live on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
Tim McGraw's new album, called Two Lanes Of Freedom, will be released on February 5th. The new single, "One Of Those Nights," will make its national television debut on ABC's live broadcast of the 2012 CMA Awards tomorrow night (Thursday, November 1st), as it will simultaneously be delivered to country radio.

Tim said, "I always go into the studio to make the best record I can possibly make, and this one is no different. But 'Freedom' is a powerful word. To come into a situation where there's some weight lifted, some refreshment going on, you can feel that in the music. I think you can feel the horses gallop on this record, and where I might go and what I might do when my engines are revving."
Two Lanes Of Freedom is Tim's first album for Big Machine Records after a court gave him the green light to legally end things with longtime label, Curb Records.
Tim is once again working with longtime producer Byron Gallimore.
After debuting the new single on the CMA Awards tomorrow night (Thursday, November 1st) Tim will return to the stage to perform with wife Faith Hill as part of a tribute to Willie Nelson. The show airs live from Nashville.
  • Tim and Faith will begin their 10-month run at The Venetian in Las Vegas on December 7th.
Carrie Underwood, P!nk and Pitbull have all been added to the linup of performers on the 40th Anniversary American Music Awards. They join previously announced performers Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Linkin Park and Christina Aguilera on this year's show, which will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. live on Sunday, November 18th at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
Additional performers and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
Fan voting is underway at
  • Carrie is nominated for Favorite Country Female Vocalist and Favorite Country Album for Blown Away.
  • Pitbull is up for Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist and Favorite Latin Artist.

Lady Antebellum members Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood are fans of getting dressed up on Halloween. Their most memorable costumes came along just a few years ago as the trio celebrated at a party at Charles' house.
That particular Halloween day wasn't the best for Charles, however. He tells us: "My biggest Halloween memory was I dressed up as a -- this was probably about three or four years ago -- I dressed up as a banana. A 6' 6" banana, and I got robbed that day. I had just moved into . . . (wife) Kass and I had just moved into this house we were renting and we were having this big ol' Halloween party and so we went out to Target to get a bunch of decorations and we come back all excited, hands full of stuff and booze (and) our back door was kicked in and bunch of stuff was taken and so I made sure to party that night, party my sorrows away. (Hillary) He did (laughs)! (Charles) I was a pretty loose banana."
Dave tells us that his costume that year was pretty genius. "Our bass player, Dennis, and I had a little joint costume in honor of (Charles) Oh, that's right! (Dave) In honor of that big Flo Rida song. (Hillary sings) Apple bottom jeans and the boots with the fur. (Dave) Yeah, I was apple bottom jeans and he was boots with the fur. (Charles) No, you were boots with the fur cause of your hairy chest. (Dave) Oh I was boots with the fur, that's right. So I had my chest hair with my shirt kind of draw in a boot. (Hillary) With a boot cut out of it. (Dave) He was apple bottom jeans with these jeans with apples hanging off of them everywhere. In honor of Flo Rida that was our Halloween costume a couple years ago. (Charles) That was pretty creative. (Hillary) That was very creative!"
Hopefully, Lady A will have Halloween out of their systems when they take the stage at the CMA Awards tomorrow night (Thursday, November 1st).
The trio is also nominated for Vocal Group and Album of the Year for Own The Night.
The CMA Awards airs live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

  • Lady A is also scheduled to perform on the American Country Awards on December 10th in Las Vegas. The show will air live on FOX.
Luke Bryan has taught his kids a thing or two about Halloween. Luke says that when he takes his two young sons trick-or-treating, he learns all about the type of people his neighbors are.
He tells us: "We're looking forward to trick-or-treating, and doing it in our neighborhood. You can find out a lot about your neighbors by what kind of candy they put out. So, well, like full bars of Snickers bars, that's what, and Reese's cups, (but) the old chocolate popcorn ball of stuff, that's no good either, like Dots - you get Dots one time of year and they pull your teeth."
Luke will be performing at the CMA Awards in Nashville tomorrow (Thursday, November 1st) night, where he is nominated for Male Vocalist and Album of the Year for Tailgates & Tanlines. The show airs live on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
Lee Brice has two Halloween costumes that qualify as his favorites -- one as a kid, and one he donned just a couple of years ago. He tells us: "Well, when I was a kid my grandma made me . . . she sewed and stuff, and she made me a karate kid outfit, so I thought that was so cool to have a robe and belt, but I will say a couple years ago as an adult my favorite still to this day (was when) I went as Goth Brooks, so I had black eyeliner and black fingernails and black lips with a Garth Brooks cowboy hat and a two-toned shirt, so that was really cool."
Lee is nominated for New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards tomorrow night (Thursday, November 1st). The show airs on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
  • Lee topped the country charts this week for the second time as an artist with "Hard To Love," the title track of his sophomore CD.
Blake Shelton is taping a Christmas special for NBC, which will reportedly feature Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, Reba McEntire and Blake's mom, Dorothy Shackleford. The show, called Blake Shelton's Not So Family Christmas Special, will tape in Los Angeles this weekend and air later this year. The show is in conjunction with Blake's new holiday CD, Cheers, It's Christmas, which is currently in stores.

George Strait will grace the cover of the new issue of People Country magazine. This is George's first exclusive interview in five years, where he opens up about his forthcoming The Cowboy Rides Away tour and how he reached the decision to wrap up his touring career. The new issue of People Country hits newsstands on Friday (November 2nd).

Darius Rucker is preparing to head out on the town tonight (Wednesday, October 31st) with his kids dressed as one of his friends and fellow country singers. He tells us: "Last year, er the year before, was my favorite one. My son was Darth Vadar and I was Luke Skywalker, and he would walk around saying, 'I am his father.' (laughs) That was, that was funny. (The kids) are doing something, but this year, I'm going as Brad Paisley. We haven't decided what that entails yet, but I know it's got a Justin Bieber wig involved, and I'm going as Brad (with) some sideburns. I'll make it happen. (laughs)"
In other Darius news, he will release his third country studio album, True Believers, on January 22nd. Darius wrote 10 of the 12 tracks on True Believers, including the title track and debut single which is currently Top 20 and climbing.
Darius said, "For this album, we really paid attention to what our friends and fans were telling us on the road. The result is an album that I'm so proud of because my fans really have been the true believers since I released my first single to country radio. I can't wait for everyone to hear it on January 22."

  • Darius is nominated for Musical Event of the Year at tomorros night's (Thursday, November 1st) 46th Annual CMA Awards for his performance of "Stuck on You" with Lionel Richie.
  • In 2009, he was named New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards.

Disney has bought LucasFilm, the company owned by Star Wars creator and filmmaker George Lucas, for just over $4 billion in cash and stock, according to a press release issued by Disney on Tuesday (October 30th). The announcement also revealed that a new Star Wars movie, Episode VII, will be released in 2015, with more sequels to come "every two or three years." The deal apparently does not include the rights to the Indiana Jones movies, which are also produced by LucasFilm but through a separate arrangement with Paramount Pictures.
Disney's purchase of LucasFilm follows just three years after it bought Marvel, which has scored with hits like Iron Man and the Number Three box office champ of all time, The Avengers. Disney also owns animation powerhouse Pixar.

  • Lucas, who launched LucasFilm in the mid-Seventies and achieved massive success with the first Star Wars film in 1977, plans to retire from the company and has turned it over to new president Kathleen Kennedy, previously Steven Spielberg's longtime producing partner.
  • Lucas will not write or direct the new Star Wars movies but will serve as a creative consultant. The last one, Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith, came out in 2005.
  • Lucas said in a statement, "For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next. It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime."

James Bond fans are being warned to steer clear of Wikipedia's entry for the newest Bond film, the highly-anticipated Skyfall, if they want to avoid major spoilers. Although Skyfall doesn't debut in the U.S. until November 9th, the film opened overseas last weekend, providing the source for those spoilers now appearing on Wikipedia. reports that the crowd sourced online encyclopedia's entry for Skyfall, the third film that stars Daniel Craig as the British superspy, includes a full plot summary, which reveals major twists involving the fate of one character and the future of the MI6 spy agency.

Last night (October 30th) on Dancing With The Stars: All-Stars, former Disney star Sabrina Bryan was the latest contestant to be eliminated during the sixth week of competition.
Apolo Anton Ohno and his partner Karina Smirnoff found themselves among the bottom two couples along with Bryan and her partner Louis Van Amstel. "Every single person can understand what it feels like to get a second chance at something and this was my second chance." said Bryan. The show included performances by Taylor Swift and Jason Mraz.
The remaining celebrities include Ohno, Kirstie Alley, Shawn Johnson, Gilles Marini, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft and Emmitt Smith.

MILLIONS LEFT WITHOUT POWER AFTER SANDY, NYC HOBBLED BY FLOODING: Millions of people across multiple mid-Atlantic and northeastern states were left without power Tuesday (October 30th) in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, which made landfall in southern New Jersey the night before as it merged with a winter system from the west to form a huge superstorm. The weakening storm, which has killed at least 50 people, continued to move from western Pennsylvania towards southern Ontario, Canada yesterday. More than 8.2 million people were without power in 17 states, with nearly 2 million of them in New York, where most of lower Manhattan was without electricity after Sandy's record storm surge Monday night inundated the streets and poured below ground, flooding the subway tunnels and damaging electrical infrastructure. Predictions were that it would be at least several days before power would be restored and the subway-dependent city would get it trains back. The light of day revealed the magnitude of the destruction to the Jersey Shore, where some towns' boardwalks were completely demolished and houses were swept from their foundations in what Governor Chris Christie said was, quote, "Beyond anything I thought I would ever see."
In other developments:

  • The New York Stock Exchange was closed for a second day, but is set to reopen today.
  • John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Newark International Airport in New Jersey will reopen today with limited service, but New York's LaGuardia Airport will remain closed.
  • Limited passenger train services will resume along the East Coast today, but New York City is still blocked because of tunnel flooding. Amtrak said it would provide modified regional service south from Newark, New Jersey, as well as service between Boston and Maine. But there will still be no service between New York and Boston.
SANDY CONTINUES TO AFFECT PREZ CAMPAIGN: Superstorm Sandy continued to affect the presidential campaign yesterday (October 30th) in its closing stretch. President Obama canceled a third straight day of campaigning as he continued to deal with the federal government's response to Sandy. Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney turned his planned Ohio rally into what was billed as a storm relief event, with attendees bringing canned goods for people affected by Sandy that Romney helped load up.
ISRAELI DEFENSE MINISTER SAYS IRAN PULLS BACK FROM NUKE BOMB GOAL: Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak was quoted Tuesday (October 30th) as saying Iran has pulled back from its ambitions to build a nuclear weapon, but warned Israel may still have to decide next year whether to launch a military strike against the Islamic nation. Barak told Britain's Daily Telegraph that an immediate crisis was avoided when Iran chose to use more than a third of its medium-enriched uranium for civilian purposes earlier this year, which he said, quote, "allows contemplating delaying the moment of truth by eight to ten months." Barak named three possible explanations for Iran's decision: that the talk about possible Israeli or American military action stopped them from trying to get closer; that it could have been a, quote, "diplomatic gambit" to avoid the issue coming to a head before the U.S. election; or a way of telling the International Atomic Energy Agency that it abides by its commitments. Barak added that he still believe Iran is resolved to build nuclear weapons.
SANDY TAKES OUT 25 PERCENT OF CELL TOWERS: In addition to all the other damage it caused, Hurricane Sandy -- which morphed into a hybrid storm as it merged with a winter system coming from the west -- took out 25 percent of the cell towers across 10 affected states. The Federal Communications Commission said Tuesday (October 30th) that the situation could actually get worse, since many cell towers that are still working are doing so with the help of generators that could run out of fuel before power is restored.
NYC 'SIGN LANGUAGE LADY' ONE OF SANDY'S BREAKOUT STARS: Amid all the awful news about Hurricane Sandy and the devastation it brought, there have been a few lighthearted moments as well. One of them has been the focus on Lydia Calas, the sign language interpreter for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg during his public statements about the storm, who The Week magazine called one of Sandy's, quote, "biggest breakout stars." The dramatic rendering by Calas' of her translations, complete with very animated facial expressions, made her a Twitter hit, who inspired her own Tumblr:
  • Avid watchers of Sandy coverage who saw Bloomberg's press statements also saw the mayor bust out his stilted Spanish, which is rendered with a heavy American accent. Bloomberg's forays into Spanish had already inspired a satirical Twitter stream, called "El Bloombito," which was updated during the storm coverage with new laugh-inducing tweets:
ELMO SPEAKS TO KIDS IN NYC AFTER HURRICANE SANDY: In the wake of Hurricane Sandy inflicting its punishing blow on New York City Monday (October 29th), younger listeners to the city's WNYC radio station got some reassurance the next morning from Sesame Street's own Elmo. Elmo appeared on the Brian Lehrer Show along with Dr. Rosemarie Truglio, of Sesame Street's Education and Research Department, who spoke about helping children deal with the stress of the storm and its aftermath. In the segment, Elmo confessed to being scared during Sandy, even though he was with his mommy and daddy, saying he had wanted to know, "Will the wind ever stop blowing?" Sesame Street had done an episode about dealing with hurricanes years ago, before Katrina struck, and Elmo explained to Lehrer Tuesday that on it he went shopping with his parents for, quote, "water and some peanut butter and tuna fish and stuff like that." On that episode, Big Bird's nest was ruined and Sesame Street residents rallied around to help rebuild it.
Following is the Elmo and Truglio segment:
STUDY: 'MAN IN THE MOON' FEATURE CREATED BY GIANT ASTEROID: A new study from Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology says that the famous flattened area on the surface of the Moon that's long been called the "Man in the Moon" appears to have been caused by a giant asteroid about the size of the nation of Austria. The study says the 1,800-mile-wide section of the Procellarum basin was caused by the asteroid crashing into the moon's surface some 3.9 billion years ago. Scientists based their analysis on the study of the distrubtion of minerals on the Moon's surface, which is different on the near and far sides.
NBA SEASON GETS UNDERWAY AS CHAMPION HEAT TOP CELTICS 120-107: The NBA season got underway with a slate of three games last night (October 30th), including a match-up between the NBA champion Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics that saw the Heat come out on top 120-107. Dwyane Wade scored 29 points for the Heat and LeBron James finished with 26 points, despite missing much of the second half because of cramps in both legs. Before the game got underway in Miami, a ceremony was held in which the championship banner was raised and the Heat got their rings. In the night's other two games:
  • The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Washington Wizards 94-84.
  • The Dallas Mavericks downed the L.A. Lakers 99-91.
NYC MARATHON STILL SET FOR NEXT SUNDAY: Despite the battering New York City took from Hurricane Sandy, which has left the subways out of service and lower Manhattan without power, Mayor Mike Bloomberg is saying that the city's annual marathon is still set to take place on Sunday (November 4th). There are lots of challenges to that happening, however, including runners getting flights in from out of town, and actually getting everyone to the starting line in Staten Island. About half of the runners would normally take the Staten Island Ferry to the start and others would take buses through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel. However, both are now closed because of flooding.

BRITISH MAN SUES TELEMARKETERS FOR WASTING HIS TIME: A British man who'd had enough of telemarketers calling his home finally told them that if they called again, he'd start charging 10 pounds per minute -- which is about $16 -- for his time. When Richard Herman kept getting called anyway, even though he's on the U.K.'s equivalent of the Do Not Call list, he followed through, keeping track of the minutes he was on the calls, recording them, and then sending an invoice to the offending company. The invoice was ignored, but Herman took the marketing company to small claims court and won for 19 minutes and 30 seconds of his wasted time, for a total of about 195 pounds, which is more than $300. Herman told the BBC that he isn't done yet, and has warned other telemarkers that he will charge them 10 pounds a minute if they call again. He's also started a website, called Say No to Cold Calls, that offers tips on how to sue telemarketers who won't listen to your requests to stop calling.

PETA WANTS ROADSIDE MEMORIAL FOR DEAD FISH: The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is up to its attention-getting stunts again, this time calling for the city of Irvine, California, to put up a roadside memorial sign for hundreds of fish that were killed in a traffic crash, The Orange County Register reports. A truck carrying 1,600 pounds of live saltwater bass, along with several tanks of pure oxygen to keep them alive as they were brought to the Irvine Ranch Market, crashed with two other vehicles earlier this month. In a letter requesting the memorial sign, PETA said, "Although such signs are traditionally reserved for human fatalities, I hope you'll make an exception because of the enormous suffering involved in this case." It continued, "Research tells us that fish use tools, tell time, sing, and have impressive long-term memories and complex social structures, yet fish used for food are routinely crushed, impaled, cut open, and gutted, all while still conscious."

Myth #1: Evildoers use Halloween as an opportunity to poison children. It seems the perfect crime, but the only problem is this "stranger danger" just doesn't happen. In only one case has a child died from eating poisoned Halloween candy. The candy was planted by the 8-year-old boy's father in an attempt to get the child's life insurance money. The convicted murderer, Ronald Clark O'Bryan, was executed in 1984 for the 1974 crime. The only recent exception to the surprising lack of Halloween candy tampering is one odd case in 2008 in Ontario, where a handful of children in a single neighborhood found cold medicine pills in sealed boxes of Smarties. However, the orange gel capsules were obvious outliers from the rest of the candy, and no child consumed the medication.
Myth #2: Armed gangs will hunt pit bulls in the streets this year. A message spread on Facebook and Twitter this September warning dog owners to lock their doors on Oct. 31 because Halloween had been declared "National Kill a Pit Bull Day." "Baseball bats, knives, bricks and poisons (a hotdog soaked in radiator fluid works well) are all suitable tools," ran the grammatically challenged message, attributed to someone named Terry Jordan. In fact, as debunking site uncovered, the messages and warnings were all a hoax aimed at punishing Terry Jordan of Slater, Mo., a councilman who was a major player in developing an animal ordinance for the city. An early version of the ordinance singled out pit bulls as vicious, but the wording was later changed so as not to specify any particular breed as aggressive. Presumably someone in town was angry enough at the original draft to go vigilante on Jordan with the false "Kill a Pit Bull" post.
Myth #3: Halloween is nearly as pricey as Christmas. Halloween isn't that big a boost to the economy. According to the National Retail Federation, spending on Halloween costumes and candy is expected to hit 8-billion-dollars this year. That's dwarfed by Christmas holiday says, which are expected to reach $586.1 billion this year.
Myth #4: Sex offenders hunt on Halloween. Like tales of poisoned candy and apples filled with razor blades, the idea that sex offenders target trick-or-treaters appears to be an urban legend. According to a study in the journal Sexual Abuse: A Journal of Research and Treatment, there was no uptick in child sex crimes on Halloween. Of 67,307 non-family sex offenses reported, none were more common on Halloween, the researchers found.
Myth #5: Vampires are real. Just for fun, let's go over the mathematical reasons why vamps can't exist. According to University of Central Florida physicist Costas Efthimiou, if the common myth of vampires were true (that they suck their victims' blood and turn them into vampires, too), the entire population of the world would have been converted into vampires in a mere 2.5 years after vampire legends emerged. Using a human population of just over 5 million (the population in the 1600s), Efthimiou assumed that vamps would convert, at minimum, one person per month (hey, why not?). At that rate, the entire world would be vampires in less than three years, he found, even taking into account human population growth.

5) "You must be tired, because you've been running through my nightmares all night."

7) "Is that candy in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

ARE SEXY HALLOWEEN COSTUMES OUT?: Yahoo searches for the phrase "sexy Halloween costumes" have dropped 47 percent since 2010. Google has also had a decline on searches for the phrase "sexy Halloween costumes," which reached an all-time high in 2008, and by 2011 the search had declined more than 50 percent since the 2008 number. One blogger theorizes that women have started getting more creative, though no less "sexy," and are just leaving out the words from their online searches. (Slate)
WATCHING HORROR MOVIES BURNS CALORIES: In a study commissioned by website, researchers found watching a horror movie could have you burning up to 184 calories. Researchers monitored participants' heart rates, oxygen intake, carbon dioxide output and calories burned. One expert says that when the body experiences a surge in adrenaline the appetite is lowered, and the metabolic rate increases, which leads to more calories being burned. The top three calorie burning movies to watch?: The Shining, Jaws, and The Exorcist. (Daily Mail)
HALLOWEEN SPENDING IS UP THIS YEAR:The National Retail Federation says Americans are expected to spend $8 billion on Halloween shopping this year, and their survey results indicate about 170 million people are planning on celebrating Halloween. Also, survey findings indicate that 45 percent of consumers plan to dress up. (NY Post)
1) Go to a pumpkin patch. Sometimes you can pumpkin farms that are jammed pack with things to do besides just picking a perfect carving pumpkin. Some pumpkin patches we went have hayrides, apple cider and donuts and sometimes even a small petting zoo for the kids.
2) Attempt a corn maze. If you have never been to one before you should challenge yourself at one this fall. While the fields are long and tall some farmers take advantage and create mazes in their fields. They charge people to come through the maze for a good time. I promise you will make it out alive.
3) Haunted houses are a given for Halloween time. It's just fun to get a little spooked this time of year. Most towns will have a couple set up.
4) Carve a pumpkin. Naturally if you are going to go to the pumpkin patch for a fun Halloween activity you might as well get out the carving knife and create a Jack-o-Lantern, right? Carve with others and have a contest to see which comes out the best. You can really get creative!
5) Roast pumpkin seeds. The best part of carving pumpkins is getting out all the seeds to roast. After rinsing your pumpkin seeds, coat them in olive oil, lay them on a baking sheet, and place them in the heated oven until they are a nice golden brown. Delicious!
6) Go on a hay ride. Have you ever been on a hay ride as a fun Halloween activity? You have got to try it. It's nice to get with a group of friends or your family and sit on the piles of hay. During the ride you get to enjoy the crisp fall area and good company. Make it even better with warm apple cider.
7) Go trick-or-treating. The kids and some grownups get dressed up to go door - to-door, yelling, and "Trick-or-Treat" and collect candy. Then you get to come home and look at all the tasty treats you gathered from the neighbors.
8) Have a Halloween party. Are you feeling a little too old to go trick-or-treating but still looking for a fun Halloween activity? Have a Halloween party. Half the joy is in the planning! There are all kinds of crazy decorations you can get at the party stores. You can even make some interesting to spook your guest. Make it even better by encouraging your guest to dress up with a best costume contest.
WHY ADULTS LOVE HALLOWEEN: According to a survey from RetailMeNot, Americans believe age 14 is when children need to stop trick-or-treating, but that doesn't mean those older than 14 stop having Halloween fun. D-D-B Worldwide reports that 13 percent of Americans between ages 18 and 44 say Halloween is their favorite holiday. A representative from D-D-B says adults love Halloween because it is a low-stress holiday, adults can wear whatever they want and not be judged, and there's no stress to find a date to bring to dinner. Retailers Being Criticized for Hurricane Sandy-Pegged Pitches
Some retailers are being criticized for their email sales pitches tied to Hurricane Sandy, even as the superstorm was wreaking its devastation on Monday (October 29th), according to Yahoo!'s Shine. Among some of what was seen:
American Apparel declared a major sale, offering online shoppers a "SandySale" discount code if they lived in one of the nine states most affected -- Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.
Urban Outfitters sent out an email to people who get its newsletter with the subject line: "This storm blows (but guess what doesn't)..." The email offered free shipping all day Monday.

Anthropologie didn't actually mention Sandy on Twitter Monday, but the message was clear: "Thinking happy thoughts -- like a new catalog & free shipping on US orders of $100+ with code AUTUMN."
Gap checked in via Foursquare to the "Frankenstorm Apocalypse" with plans to spend the hurricane doing, quote, "lots of shopping."
Luxury department store Barney's, which is headquartered in Manhattan, tweeted, "Word of the Day: Hunker. We recommend browsing and staying inside."
NBA Team Criticized for Being Too White
In an unusual sports dust-up in Minnesota, the Timberwolves NBA team is being criticized for having too many white players, the Yahoo! Sports blog ThePostGame reports. Although African-American players make up 75 percent of NBA players overall, the Timberwolves roster this year will have only five black players out of 15, just 33 percent, for what the Minneapolis Star-Tribune says will be the whitest team in the league since the 1980s Boston Celtics. Some civil rights leaders in Minneapolis think that's a problem, including Tyrone Terrell, chairman of St. Paul's African American leadership council. He told the Star-Tribune that he think the racial makeup of the Timberwolves roster could be a ploy by the ownership to sell the team to a majority-white fan base in the area. Terrell said, "How did we get a roster that resembles the 1955 Lakers? I think everything is a strategy. Nothing happens by happenstance." And longtime Minneapolis civil rights advocate Ron Edwards told the newspaper, "I think, personally, that it was calculated. Is this an attempt to get fans back in the stands? Minnesota, after all, is a pretty white state.'' Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn called the allegations "patently false."

Ex-Cheerleader Who Had Sex with Her Underage Student Reportedly Offered Reality Show
RadarOnline is reporting that a 27-year-old former NFL cheerleader-turned-teacher who admitted having sex with her 17-year-old student has been offered her own reality TV show by 495 Productions, the creators of Jersey Shore. Sarah Jones admitted in a Kentucky court earlier this month that she'd had an affair with the teen, Cody York, after months of strongly denying it. As part of her plea deal, the former Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader was sentenced to diversion, which is a form of probation, but won't have to register as a sex offender. York, who's now 18, is currently Jones' boyfriend, and the two left court hand-in-hand. RadarOnline cited what it described as a "well placed insider" as saying of Jones' reality TV deal, "She is basically being rewarded for breaking the law! She's totally cashing in on her crime, and I'm pretty sure that if it was a 27-year-old man that had pleaded guilty to having sex with his 17-year-old female student he wouldn't have been given a TV show!"

Lee Brice earns his second consecutive Number One hit this week with "Hard To Love," which tops both the Billboard and Mediabase charts. The gold-certified single follows Lee's "A Woman Like You," which set the pace earlier this year with platinum certification and chart-topping status.

Lee said, "I think guys like us on the road can certainly relate to being hard to love a lot of times . . . or just guys in general. I loved this song before it was even finished being written and am blown away that my fans and country radio supported it all the way to No. one."

Lee has teamed up with American Songwriter for their annual Lyric Contest as the 2013 Grand Prize "dream co-write." The winning aspiring songwriter will win a trip to Nashville where they'll spend the day writing with Lee.

The donation of $1 from each ticket sold on the North American leg of the Blown Away tour will continue in 2013 to support Red Cross disaster relief.

  • In addition to being nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, Carrie is scheduled to perform during the live broadcast from the Bridgestone Arena on ABC.
Toby Keith's new CD, Hope On The Rocks, is released today (October 30th). The 10-song project includes his latest Top 20 single, "I Like Girls That Drink Beer." Toby is also offering fans a Deluxe Edition of Hope On The Rocks that features four additional songs, including remixes of his hits "Red Solo Cup" and "Beers Ago."
Toby produced Hope On The Rocks and served as its principle songwriter. He penned the album's title track by himself, a song that Toby tells us is one of his best: "'Hope On The Rocks' is one of my favorite things I've ever written and I wrote it by myself because I knew that I was gonna grind on it until it was exactly where I wanted it. I was gonna write this song whether I had this title, 'Hope On The Rocks,' or not and it's usually the other way around, but I had 8 or 10 people and I had three minutes to tell you a story about them, so I had a couple lines, and it's those people that we see . . . Everybody knows what I'm talking about -- there's somebody in your life that at some point you meet and they're in your life for a while at the coffee shop, at the deli, at work, and then all of a sudden you just don't see 'em anymore but you don't realize that you don't see 'em. They're just gone, and this is the bartender talking about those people in this song and he's saying, 'You don't know where they go? They come here. Here's where they come.'"
  • Hope On The Rocks comes barely a year after the release of Clancy's Tavern, which produced the hits "Made In America", "Beers Ago" and "Red Solo Cup."
In addition to performing on the CMA Awards on Thursday (November 1st), Miranda Lambert is nominated in four categories, one of which is with her husband, Blake Shelton.
Miranda is up for Female Vocalist, Album of the Year for Four The Record, and Song and Music Video of the Year for her chart-topping hit, "Over You."
Miranda and Blake wrote the poignant song together about Blake's brother who was tragically killed in a car accident several years ago.
The collaboration proved to be a homerun for the couple, but they try not to work together too often for good reason, as Miranda tells us: [We work pretty well together because we don't do it often. I think that's the key is we sort of pick and choose what we want to do together as artists because we don't ever want the business to get in the way of our personal relationship, but, you know, definitely I respect him so much as his own artist and as a vocalist. And so, writin' together is really fun because we kind of step away from bein' husband and wife, and we just become artists that respect each other. And it's a really good relationship, and I think doin' that every now and then and keepin' it special is what kind of makes it . . . makes it work.
The CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
Lady Antebellum are proud of their two nominations going into Thursday (November 1st) night's CMA Awards. The trio is up for Vocal Group of the Year, which they've taken home the past three years, as well as Album of the Year for Own The Night.
Lady A's Charles Kelley tells us that being among the stand-out albums of the year is a big deal. "When we found out that the album was nominated, it was just such an amazing feeling. Own the Night is really special to us and really a nostalgic record for us. And so, to see it still kind of get recognized like that is a special thing. There's just so many great records in (that category) and so, it's awesome. We definitely don't take it for granted.
Lady Antebellum is also set to perform during the live CMA Awards broadcast on ABC.
The show will be held at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and hosted again by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley.
  • Who deserves to take home the Album of the Year award -- Lady A, Eric Church (Chief), Miranda Lambert (Four The Record), Dierks Bentley (Home) or Luke Bryan (Tailgates & Tanlines)?
Jason Aldean held his seventh annual "Concert for the Cure" on Saturday (October 27th) in Dallas, Texas raising $509,125 to help support the local Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the fight against breast cancer. A capacity crowd of over 20,000 packed the Gexa Energy Pavilion for the final date of the record-breaking 2012 My Kinda Party tour.

Little Big Town is among the multiple nominees at Thursday (November 1st) night's CMA Awards. The group is up for three awards -- Vocal Group, Single & Video of the Year for "Pontoon."
Karen Fairchild tells us that LBT is new to the Single of the Year category thanks to their first chart-topping hit. "We've never been nominated (for Single of the Year). We've been nominated for Group before, but never for that, a song performance. So, it's just super cool. Who would've thought that 'Motorboatin'' would be up for Single of the Year, you know? But that's how big an impact, I guess, it's had with the fans and with people. People want to have a good time."
Little Big Town are also scheduled to perform during the 46th annual CMA Awards, which will be broadcast live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
  • The music video for Little Big Town's latest single, "Tornado," will make its world premiere on CMT on Wednesday (October 31st) at 6 a.m. ET.
Newcomer Kristen Kelly's self-titled EP is released today (October 30th). The four-track EP includes Kristen's current Top 30 and climbing single, "Ex-Old Man," as well as three other unreleased songs all co-written by Kristen.
She tells us: "Well, my single came out in April and I am so ready to share more songs that are gonna be off the upcoming album on this EP. There's 'Ex-Old Man,' which is my single, 'Drink Myself Out Of Love With You', 'He Loves To Make Me Cry' and 'Miss Me' are all gonna be on the EP, and I feel like they're all four different sides of who Kristen Kelly is as an artist, but it's cohesive enough that it works, I feel like."
  • Earlier this summer, Kristen made history when "Ex-Old Man" became the most-added song on Country Aircheck, making it the first time in Country Aircheck history that a new female artist's debut single topped the most-added list.
  • Fans can watch the video for "Ex-Old Man" on VEVO.
  • Kristen spent part of this year performing on the Virtual Opry stage as part of Brad Paisley's Virtual Reality tour.

PAnderson Cooper's daytime talk show, Anderson Live, will not be renewed for a third season. On Monday, October 29th, Telepictures announced that despite the reworking of the show for its second season, the ratings have continued to be soft so the show will not be renewed but it will continue to air through the summer of 2013. In a released statement through parent company, Warner Bros., Telepictures said, "We are extremely proud of Anderson and the show that he and the entire production team have produced. While we made significant changes to the format, set and produced it live in its second season, the series will not be coming back for a third season in a marketplace that has become increasingly difficult to break through. We will continue to deliver top-quality shows throughout next summer."

  • Cooper released his own statement which read, "I am very proud of the work that our terrific staff has put into launching and sustaining our show for two seasons. I am also grateful to Telepictures for giving me the opportunity, and indebted to viewers, who have responded so positively. I look forward to doing more great shows this season, and though I'm sorry we won't be continuing, I have truly enjoyed it."

Actress Evan Rachel Wood and her fiance, Jaime Bell, will become husband and wife this week. The couple was spotted picking up their marriage license in Beverly Hills earlier this month on October 16th. An eyewitness told Radar Online, "Evan and Jamie were at the Beverly Hills City marriage license office around lunchtime today . . . I had to do a double take as at first I didn't recognize them. They looked like any other young couple in love. They were just waiting in line like regular people, holding hands and at one point Jamie leaned over and kissed Evan. They certainly looked excited and happy!"

  • Wood and Bell initially dated in 2006 but later rekindled their romance during the summer of 2011. The couple got engaged last winter. While they don't discuss their romance publicly, the couple was spotted out on Saturday night, October 27th, at the LACMA Art and Film Gala.

Earlier this month, Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman announced that they were ending their 30 year marriage and according to published reports it was due to DeVito's wandering eye. Well it appears sometimes, divorce may be just what the doctor ordered as the two plan to remain good friends. A close friend of the family told Radar Online, "There's no real bitterness between Danny and Rhea, because they are still close friends . . . Both did a wonderful job raising Lucy, Daniel and Grace, and they kept their marriage alive for the sake of raising their kids."

  • The source explained, "However, their matrimony just ran its course. Danny's flirting and inappropriate behavior with other women infuriated Rhea; she just felt that it was time for her to move on with her life . . . The split is obviously tinged with sadness, Danny and Rhea did everything together and they'll both miss each other's company . . . The pair had a grown-up chat with the kids, explained the circumstances to them and explained their feelings."
  • Perlman is already moving forward and has her immediate plans mapped out. The source said, "It was all pretty amicable in the end, and Rhea is relieved she doesn't have to worry about Danny and wants to just enjoy the rest of her life . . . She will focus on her work and probably take time off in their shared vacation home in New England."

SANDY SLAMS INTO SOUTHERN N.J. COAST, RECORD STORM SURGE IN NYC: Hurricane Sandy slammed into the southern New Jersey coastline near Atlantic City with 80 mile per hour winds last night (October 29th), with the wind, rain and storm surge effects of the massive superstorm being felt along the mid-Atlantic and northeastern coast. Sandy sent a record 13-foot surge of seawater into lower Manhattan, threatening the subway system, which had been shut down the night before in anticipation of the storm, and the electrical system in the area. Con Ed, the city's main utility, preventively shut down power to large areas of lower Manhattan in order to reduce damage to underground equipment from the floodwater.
Millions of people were without power as a result of the superstorm, which was caused when Sandy collided with a winter system from the west and a blast of Arctic air from the north. The hybrid storm -- which is no longer considered a hurricane -- will continue to move through inland areas of the northeast for a couple of days, continuing to bring high winds and rains as it slowly weakens.

Although preliminary estimates are that damage from Hurricane Sandy will range between $10 billion and $20 million, analysts say any damage to the overall economy will likely be limited. Additionally, any economic growth initially lost because of the storm will likely be restored once reconstruction begins. There may even be a little boost because of people stocking up on supplies like extra food, water and batteries ahead of the storm.
Hurricane Sandy continued to run roughshod over President Obama's and Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's plans for the final week push before next Tuesday's election. Obama, dealing with both the responsibilities and the benefits of incumbency, was moving to show effective leadership, as he met with federal officials monitoring the storm and addressed the nation briefly. Both he and Romney canceled campaign events yesterday and today.
MONTHLY JOBS REPORT MIGHT BE DELAYED BY SANDY: The monthly jobs report from the Labor Department that's due out Friday (November 2nd) may be delayed because of Hurricane Sandy. The closely watched report on the unemployment rate and number of jobs created in the previous month will be the last piece of economic data to come before the election next week. Because Sandy has closed government offices and public transportation around Washington, Bureau of Labor Statistics workers may not be able to get their analysis of the numbers done in time for Friday's planned release. Economists don't expect any big surprises in the report, with the unemployment rate of 7.8 percent expected to stay about where it is and the slow, steady pace of jobs growth to continue.
SYRIA LAUNCHES AIRSTRIKES ACROSS THE COUNTRY: Syria launched airstrikes against rebel areas across the country on Monday (October 29th), with scores of fighter jet strikes that opposition activists said was the most widespread bombing in a single day since the Syrian uprising began 19 months ago. More than 500 people have died over what was supposed to have been a four-day cease-fire between President Bashar al-Assad's regime and the rebels.
MENINGITIS OUTBREAK SPREADS TO 19TH STATE: The fungal meningitis outbreak tied to tainted steroid injections spread to a 19th state Monday (October 29th) with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention saying a first case had been reported in Rhode Island. Only four of the 23 states that received some of the tainted medication haven't reported any cases of fungal meningitis. The total number of cases had risen to 347 on Monday, up 10 from Saturday, with 25 people dead. There are also seven reported cases of infections after the tainted steroid was injected into people's joints, such as a knee, hip, shoulder or elbow.
TOMB OF THE UNKNOWNS TO REMAIN GUARDED DURING HURRICANE SANDY: Although Arlington National Cemetery has been closed to tourists because of Hurricane Sandy, U.S. Army servicemen will continue to guard the Tomb of the Unknowns throughout the storm. A spokesman for the Third U.S. Infantry Regiment, which is responsible for guarding the tomb, told the Associated Press that when the cemetery closes due to weather, the guard continues, but it's not the choreographed 21-pace that the public sees. Instead, soldiers guard the tomb from a small enclosure covered by a green awning about 20 feet away. If the weather becomes too dangerous, the tomb can be guarded from a room inside a nearby amphitheater. But the AP said no such order had been given as of Monday afternoon. The Tomb of the Unknowns holds the remains of unidentified soldiers from World Wars One and Two and the Korean War. Sentinels have kept it under continuous guard since 1948.
  • A photo that was making the Internet rounds on Monday showed three of the Tomb of the Unknowns sentinels standing their posts in driving rain. It turns out however that the photo, though stirring, was taken during a September storm. LINK to photo:

FBI: NUMBER OF REPORTED VIOLENT CRIMES DOWN 3.8 PERCENT: The FBI announced Monday (October 29th) that the number of violent crimes reported to police decreased 3.8 percent last year to 1.2 million, the fifth straight year of declines. Additionally, the total number of property crimes reported to law enforcement went down by 0.5 percent to 9 million, the ninth consecutive year that it's fallen. The latest drops mark the continuation of a nearly two-decade drop in crime levels. The FBI's crime reporting program, which reports on crimes that are reported to police, is one of two measures of crime levels issued by the Justice Department. The other, which is the national crime victimization survey, is designed to get crime data whether it's reported to police or not. That survey, which came out to weeks ago, reported that violent crimes jumped 18 percent last year, the first rise in nearly 20 years, while property crimes rose for the first time in a decade. But experts say the survey data don't necessarily signal a reversal of the long-term decline in crime.
TOYOTA TOPS 'CONSUMER REPORTS' RELIABILITY RANKINGS: Japanese car brands filled the top seven spots in Consumer Reports' annual reliability rankings out Monday (October 29th), with Toyota's Scion, Lexus and Toyota brands in the Number One, Two and Three spots. The Toyota Prius C, a subcompact hybrid, got the best overall score. The rankings predict the reliability of 2013 model-year vehicles based on surveys of Consumer Reports' readers, with 800,000 people this year submitting information on 1.2 million vehicles. U.S. brands Ford and Lincoln, which were once top performers, fell to the bottom of this year's rankings because of persistent problems with touch screens and transmissions. Ford was also hurt because three normally reliable models, the Ford Escape, Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, are all new for 2013, so Consumer Reports couldn't predict their reliability. The best-performing U.S. brand was GM's Cadillac.
49ERS ROLL OVER CARDINALS 24-3 IN 'MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL': The San Francisco 49ers rolled over the Arizona Cardinals 24-3 in Monday Night Football last night (October 29th) in Arizona. San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith was 18 of 19 for 232 yards with three touchdowns, while Cardinals QB John Skelton went 32 of 52 for 290 yards with no touchdowns.
WORLD SERIES RATINGS SET RECORD LOW: The TV ratings for this year's World Series that saw the San Francisco Giants sweep the Detroit Tigers set a record low. Nielsen Media Research said Monday (October 29th) that the four games averaged a 7.6 rating, beating the previous low of 8.4 for the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies-Tampa Bay Rays series and the 2010 Giants-Texas Rangers series, which each went five games. San Francisco's 2-0 win in Game 3 Saturday night earned a 6.1 rating, matching the lowest for any World Series game. Philadelphia's 5-4 win in Game 3 in 2008 also had a 6.1 rating, after a rain delay pushed the start time past 10 p.m. ET and the game didn't end until 1:47 a.m.

NYU CLASS HAS STUDENTS PLAN TERROR ATTACKS? New York University offers a transnational terrorism class which assigns students the task of planning hypothetical terrorist attacks. A former Navy criminal investigator, Marie-Helen Maras, teaches the class wants her pupils to "step into a [terrorist's] shoes" for the assignment, which asks students to "describe your hypothetical attack and what will happen in the aftermath of the attack." She says, "The exercise is meant to prepare students for the field, to prepare them for careers in intelligence, policing, counter-terrorism. This is a grad-level assignment for a grad-level course." Some NYPD officers reportedly feel the class is an insult to those who died in the September 11th attacks. (New York Post)
COYOTES MOVE INTO MANSION: Some residents in Clearwater, Florida claim that a pack of coyotes has moved into a mansion in their neighborhood. One neighbor told reporters that the property -- which has been empty for years -- is filling up with all kinds of animals including rats and a five-foot lizard. Alli Lyon added, "And now... the coyotes are coming out in broad daylight. I know they're coming from [the mansion]. I've seen them come in and out of there, day and night." (Huffington Post)

1) Good ole trick of treating: If Halloween is known for anything, it's trick-or-treating. Keep things traditional with your sweetie and go out for a fun night of trick-or-treating. Trick-or-treating with your man will be nothing like doing it with your best friends. Dress up as killer Chucky and his bloody bride or the infamous Bonnie and Clyde. Collect goodies with your other half until the AM, leaving just enough time to catch Jason and Michael Myers on your favorite movie channels while snacking on all your sweets and cuddling up to your man.
2) Tour a haunted house: Nearly every city holds a haunted house come Halloween night. Be daring with your significant other and take a tour of a haunted house while getting spooked by the scariest Halloween characters. If you get too scared, grab hold of your honey's hand and let him guide you through the seemingly cursed house. The goal is to make it out alive...but anything is possible with your man by your side.
3) Go through a corn maze: Spend Halloween among humongous stalks of corn with the company of the love of your life. Get lost in the darkness of Halloween night as scarecrows and creatures jump out from behind the corn to scare the both of you. Grab tightly onto your man's arm as you work your way through the corn. Have the time of your life as you try to make your way out of the maze before the sun comes up.
4) See a movie at the drive-in: Going to the drive-in movie makes Halloween a little more special than your usual dinner and a movie on the couch. Catch some of the spookiest Halloween favorites with your love on the big screen. Cuddle up with your honey in your car, snack on jumbo popcorn, fizzy sodas and sweet treats while watching people fight for their lives on the scariest night of the year. Watch fictional characters go wild on-screen while making memories off-screen.
GOOGLE CANCELS ANDROID EVENT: Google was scheduled to unveil it's Android yesterday (October 29th,) but had to cancel the event due to Hurricane Sandy. The event was scheduled for 9-A-M in New York City, which is in a state of emergency due to the storm. At the event, Google was expected to detail the next version of their Android. It was also rumored that Google would announce a new Nexus LG phone, and a new Nexus tablet. The event has not been rescheduled yet. (ABC News)
Pro: Kissing on the first day can help you determine just how bad a man wants and respects you. If he is attracted to you, he will most likely give you a sensual kiss if he feels the kiss has been reciprocated. If he respects you, he will acknowledge that it is your first date and not choose to take it any further than a kiss. However, if he's offering to take you to the nearest hotel, he's a loser.
Pro: Kissing on the first date can also leave the two of you anxious for the next date, which is very exciting. If the guy wants to kiss you, this is good confirmation that he's into you! Use it to your advantage and have them panting for you as they wait for the next date.
Con: Keep in mind that any kind of physical interaction can lead to something more than just a kiss. If you're looking for a long-term relationship, kissing may not be the way to go on the first date. It is traditional to allow a brief peck on the cheek. However, if you've had a few drinks and just can't seem to keep your hands off each other, then you may have made a mistake.
Con: Other than the fact that he could be a horrible kisser, you probably don't know enough about him to kiss him as of yet. There are so many STDs to consider. These days, you have to be careful about all parts of your body - including your mouth. If he seems like a guy that gets around, you may want to make sure you're the only one he's kissing to the best of your knowledge.
LIGHTBULB YOU CAN CONTROL WITH AN APP: A low power L-E-D light bulb is now for sale in Apple stores. The Phillips Hue bulb can display any color, and dimming and color options can be controlled by an app on an iPhone or iPad. The app also allows users to control the bulb remotely. The hue starter kit retails for 199-dollars and is available at Apple stores today. (ABC News)
WHY YOUR HOMEMADE NAKED PHOTOS AREN'T SAFE: A new study concludes that 88-percent of homemade pornography, including videos and still images, finds it's way onto porn sites without the owner's knowledge. The images are taken from various places, including lost or stolen cell phones, or hacked private accounts on Photobucket, Flickr, Facebook, or Tumblr. The images and videos are posted to website referred to as "para-sites," which are devoted to hosting sexual images featuring young subjects. (Live Science)
HOW TO MAKE A GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION: According to an article from the Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, shaking someone's hand before a social interaction makes a more positive impression than a no-handshake greeting. Experiment results showed increased activity in the brain's reward processing region during handshake exchanges. Also, a body language expert says shaking hands is a peace offering, and proof you're not carrying any weapons. (Women's Health Magazine)
MOTOR VEHICLES BIGGEST SAFETY CONCERN FOR HALLOWEEN: A U.S. Child expert says Halloween is one of the most dangerous nights for driving because it's dark, and kids are dressed in dark costumes, and they're out in the streets. A personal injury lawyer says the most common and potentially deadly type of accident threatening children on Halloween involve vehicles. Both experts say have you kid stick to sidewalks, use reflective tape on their costumes, and carry flashlights or glowsticks so they can be seen. (United Press)

More People Saying Political Affiliation is a Dating Deal-Breaker
In our politically polarized times, more people are saying that political affiliation is a dating deal-breaker, saying they won't date a Democrat if they're a Republican or a Republican if they're a Democrat, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing Barbie Adler, the owner of high-end matchmaking service Selective Search. Adler, who's firm has 28 offices across the country, says she's seeing more clients unwilling to date across political lines this year than in other recent presidential election years. Adler says her clients are often putting differing political affiliation ahead of religious differences, unattractiveness, and low educational and professional attainment on the list of things they don't want. Adler told the Journal that in the past, about 25 percent of her clients wouldn't date a member of the opposite party, but now it's jumped up to 75 percent, with the opposition to it particularly strong in swing states. The Journal says far less expensive dating services are seeing this political dating divide too, such as OK Cupid and

Some Cops Upset Over NYU Class That Has Students Plan Hypothetical Terrorist Attack
The New York Post reported Monday (October 29th) that some New York City police officers are upset over a New York University class on transnational terrorism that gives students an assignment to plan a hypothetical terrorist attack, saying it's an insult to the officers killed on 9/11. In the syllabus for the class, instructor Marie-Helen Maras, a former Navy criminal investigator, tells students, "In your paper, you must describe your hypothetical attack and what will happen in the aftermath of the attack." They're told to include the methods of execution, sources of funding, number of operatives needed and the target government's reaction, while staying within their chosen terror group's, quote, "goals, capabilities, tactical profile, targeting pattern and operational area." One ranking police officer who lost co-workers on 9/11 told the Post, "I'm disgusted. What is this, we have our students do the work for the terrorists?" While another police source told the newspaper he's worried the assignment could become instructional in plotting attacks. But Maras defended the assignment, telling the Post, "The exercise is meant to prepare students for the field, to prepare them for careers in intelligence, policing, counterterrorism. This is a grad-level assignment for a grad-level course. Why didn't the police call me if they have concerns? I have NYPD officers in my class."

Jason Aldean will wrap up his successful My Kinda Party tour tomorrow night (Saturday, October 27th) in Dallas, Texas. The show is also special because it will serve as his annual Concert for the Cure to support breast cancer research and awareness.
Jason tells us that while it's a fundraiser for the disease that has taken so many lives, the concert is also a celebration. "Every year we do Concert for the Cure. We pick a place in October, which is breast cancer awareness month and basically pick a city to do the show in, and you know the show's always a lot of fun. When people think about breast cancer obviously it's a terrible disease, but that show that we do is as much about celebrating the people that have beat the disease as much as it is about remembering people that've lost their battle with it, so it's not one of those nights that everybody's sad. It's a fun night, and we do a lot of cool stuff. I deck out in pink which doesn't happen very often. That should be fun around Texas -- a bunch of cowboys giving me a hard time -- but, you know, it's just a cool thing."
Jason says the Concert for the Cure wraps up his touring year on a high note because he gets to give back. "I thought, 'What a great way to end the tour and also have all the proceeds of the show and things like that going to Susan G. Komen,' and something we started doing last year was whatever the city is that we do that show in, all the proceeds go to that particular chapter, and this year it's Dallas, so that particular chapter gets all the money for mammograms and whatever else, so it's turned into being a really cool thing, and this year's gonna be the most money we've ever done, so I'm looking forward to it."
Jason topped the Billboard pop and country albums charts this week with his Night Train CD.
He will perform during next week's CMA Awards, where he is up for Entertainer, Male Vocalist and Single of the Year for "Dirt Road Anthem." The show will air live from Nashville on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
  • Night Train is Jason's first album to top the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.
  • It's the second-largest debut of the year selling more than 400,000 units, coming in behind the success of Mumford & Sons' Babel, which sold 600,000 units its first week.
Taylor Swift is wrapping up her whirlwind Red release week media blitz with an appearance on The Katie Couric Show today (Friday, October 26th). Taylor tells us: "I'm really excited about sitting down with Katie Couric today because every time I've done an interview with Katie she's been so classy and sweet and kind and I love it when I'm talking to someone that I feel like is a legitimately good person. I really get a great vibe from Katie because she's so real. She'll have a real conversation with you off-camera and just really give you good advice or listen to what you're going through and it's nice when you feel there's that camaraderie between someone who's interviewing you and yourself."
Taylor will also join Katie during her ABC special tonight, All Access Nashville, which airs at 9 p.m. ET. This special edition of 20/20 also features Carrie Underwood, Reba and Miranda Lambert.
These may be Taylor's last media stops of the week, but the superstar won't be slowing down anytime soon. Taylor's days and weeks ahead include a lot of travel and promotion for Red. She explains: "We've ended a really, really busy week but we still have so much more to do. We're gonna go and perform on Dancing With The Stars and then the CMAs and then we're going all over the world to Australia and Japan and I cannot wait."
Taylor's Red CD was released worldwide on Monday (October 22nd).
The album is on track to not only top the all-genre Billboard Top 200 chart but to make music history with first-week sales. Some reports project first week sales of Red exceeding one million copies.
In other Taylor news, the singer has reportedly broken up with her 18-year-old boyfriend, Conor Kennedy. Sources blame distance and Taylor's time-intensive album release schedule for the split.

It's been seven years since Toby Keith was nominated for a CMA Award, but his 2012 nod for Music Video of the Year for "Red Solo Cup" is not enough to get him to attend.
Toby told Country Weekly, "Hell no, I ain't showing up. I gotta go get a root canal that day, or something fun."
Toby's made no secret that there's no love lost between himself and the Country Music Association. He blames the fact that despite being nominated 27 times over the course of his career, he has only won twice because of the organization's political nature.
With or without Toby, the 46th annual CMA Awards will air on November 1st at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
Toby is featured in the November 5th issue of Country Weekly, on stands on Monday (October 29th).

The DVD features exclusive performance footage of the group's biggest hits and music from their eighth studio album, including the Number One hit "Banjo" and their current Top 10 single, "Come Wake Me Up."
The film also captures in-depth personal interviews from the road and inside Jay's home studio, where the album was produced along with Dann Huff. The guys share stories behind several songs, including those they co-wrote.
The cinematic project made a one-night-only debut in movie theaters across the country in conjunction with the album release earlier this year, with Flatts celebrating with fans at the AMC Theater in New York City's Times Square.
Rascal Flatts continue their Changed tour tonight (Friday, October 26th) in Tampa, Florida with special guests Little Big Town, Eli Young Band and Edens Edge.
  • Rascal Flatts have sold over seven million concert tickets since 2004.
  • The trio has extended their Changed tour into next year and will kick off the winter leg on January 10, 2013 with special guest The Band Perry.
