returns to the spotlight for a two-year run at The Colosseum at Caesars
Palace in Las Vegas beginning tomorrow (Saturday, December 1st). The
new show is called Shania: Still The One
, and it will incorporate the superstar's previous hits.
Shania says the Las Vegas shows will mark a new beginning. "I
just can't wait! I feel as though I'm about to step into a world of
endless creative possibilities, and that is so exciting for a
songwriter, for an artist to take their songs and translate them into
such a magical place on a magical platform, so this will be like no
other platform I've ever been on before with my songs, and it's a whole
new beginning, I think, for the old music."
Shania tells USA Today
that her younger sister, Carrie Ann Brown
will be part of her Vegas show, harmonizing with her on stage each
night. She said, "I told her I wasn't doing this without her. . . We
haven't been on stage together since I was 10 and she was eight. My
records feature a lot of harmonizing, and in past shows we hired someone
to do that. But my sister sounds a lot like me, so it will sound more
like the records than ever before."
- Tickets to Shania: Still The One range in price from $55 to $250.
- Shania last performed a full live concert in 2004.

NYU BACKS JAMES FRANCO IN SUIT AGAINST PROFESSOR
New York University has thrown its support behind James Franco
in a defamation suit filed by his former NYU professor. The professor
believes that he was bullied by Franco in the press and fired from his
job for giving the actor a bad grade.
Franco's professor, Jose Angel Santana, alleges that he made "disparaging and inaccurate public statements" to the press after receiving a "D" in the class. Hollywood Reporter
says that NYU -- also a defendant in the case -- stood up for James and
asked a judge to dismiss Santana's suit. They are arguing that the law
only protects false statements of facts and that the star was merely
giving his opinion.
CHECK IT OUT:

quoted in an interview saying, "I didn't feel like I needed to waste my
time with a bad teacher."

NEW 'BACHELOR' CLAIMS TO BE BORN-AGAIN VIRGIN
The new season of ABC's hit show The Bachelor is premiering on January 7th and it seems this season may be a bit tamer than previous years. Star magazine is reporting that this season's bachelor, Sean Lowe, is allegedly a born-again virgin.
source told the magazine that Lowe has had sex in the past with several

U.N. VOTE RECOGNIZES PALESTINIAN STATE, U.S., ISRAEL OPPOSED:
The United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly
(November 29th) to recognize a Palestinian state, with more than
two-thirds of the 193 member nations voting in favor of upgrading the
Palestinians' status to "nonmember observer state" from "nonmember
observer entity." The U.S. and Israel were among the nine states that
voted no, joined by Canada, the Czech Republic, the Marshall Islands,
Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Panama. There were 41 abstentions, among
them many Western nations, including Britain and Germany. The vote came
after a speech by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in which he
called it a, quote, "last chance" to save the two-state solution.
However, the vote doesn't change anything on the ground, where Israel
still controls the West Bank and east Jerusalem and access to Gaza, and
real independence won't be gained by the Palestinians until there's a
peace deal with Israel. Both U.S. and Israel criticized the vote, with
U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice saying, "Today's unfortunate and counterproductive resolution places further obstacles in the path of peace," and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
calling it "meaningless" and saying, "It won't advance the
establishment of a Palestinian state, but rather, put it further off."
EX-PREZ GEORGE H.W. BUSH HOSPITALIZED WITH COUGH:
INTERNET SHUT DOWN ACROSS SYRIA: Internet service went down Thursday (November 29th) across Syria, with the opposition saying President Bashar al-Assad's
regime shut it down, perhaps in preparation for a major offensive.
Cellphone service also went out in Damascus and parts of central Syria.
However, the government blamed the rebel fighters in the country's
20-month-old civil war for the outages. The developments come as the
regime suffered a string of blows in recent weeks, losing air bases and
other strategic facilities, and as rebels have recently begun pushing
back into Damascus after being driven out of the capital after a July
offensive. U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland condemned
what she called the regime's, quote, "assault" on Syrians' ability to
communicate with each other and express themselves.
FRANCE CLEARS CONTINENTAL IN CONCORDE CRASH:
A French court cleared Continental Airlines Thursday (November 29th) of
criminal responsibility for the Concorde crash in Paris in 2000 that
killed 113 people. The court also absolved a Continental mechanic of
involuntary manslaughter. The appeals court ruling, however, found
Continental civilly responsible, opening the door to payments to the
families of those killed and to Concorde operator Air France. The court
confirmed that the crash was caused by a metal strip that fell from a
Continental plane onto the runway just before the Concorde took off, and
that Continental welder John Taylor had violated industry norms by
using titanium to forge the piece, which destroyed the Concorde's tire,
causing pieces of rubber to damage the plane and spark the fire that
brought it down. However, it ruled that this was not criminal, since
neither Taylor nor Continental could have predicted what had happened.
The crash accelerated the end of the use of the Concorde three years
later due to high operating costs and a drop in demand.
MILITARY JUDGE ACCEPTS TERMS OF MANNING'S PLEA: A military judge yesterday (November 29th) accepted the terms under which Army Private Bradley Manning
would plead guilty to seven charges for sending classified U.S.
documents to WikiLeaks. However, the ruling, which came during Manning's
pretrial hearing, doesn't mean the pleas have been formally accepted,
instead it approves the language of the offenses to which Manning would
admit. The judge said those offenses would carry a maximum prison term
of 16 years. Government officials have not said whether they would
continue prosecuting him for the other 15 counts he faces, including
aiding the enemy, an offense that carries a maximum penalty of life in
prison. Under the proposal, Manning would admit to sending a battlefield
video file, some classified memos, more than 20 Iraq war logs, more
than 20 Afghanistan war logs and other classified materials to
WikiLeaks. Later yesterday, Manning took the stand, where he made his
first public comments since his 2010 arrest in Iraq. He spoke about
feeling like he was in a cage in the early days after his arrest and
feeling that he was going to die there. He also said his isolation
quickly led to a breakdown, and he eventually was put on suicide watch.
OBAMA AND ROMNEY SHARE WHITE HOUSE LUNCH: President Obama and Mitt Romney
had their White House lunch yesterday (November 29th), a private,
one-on-one sit-down that lasted a little over an hour as the two former
rivals had their first face-to-face meeting since the election. In a
statement released later, the White House said Romney, quote,
"congratulated the president for the success of his campaign and wished
him well over the coming four years." The statement said they discussed
the importance of maintaining America's leadership position in the
world, and quote, "pledged to stay in touch, particularly if
opportunities to work together on shared interests arise in the future."
Little other information was given, other than that the menu included
white turkey chili and southwestern grilled chicken salad, and a photo
was released showing the two men shaking hands in the Oval Office.
Former President George H.W. Bush

Hospital said the 88-year-old Bush had been in and out of the hospital

hospital and Bush's spokesman, Jim McGrath, said the former president is
stable and they expect him to be released by the weekend. McGrath said
doctors want the cough to go away completely before Bush is discharged.

STRAUSS-KAHN REPORTEDLY REACHES SETTLEMENT WITH MAID DIALLO:
Former International Monetary Fund head Dominique Strauss-Kahn
has reportedly reached a settlement agreement with hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo
who accused him of trying to rape her in an upscale New York City hotel
last year, the Associated Press reported Thursday (November 29th),
citing what was described as a person familiar with the case. Details of
the deal to settle Diallo's lawsuit against Strauss-Kahn were unknown.
Although Strauss-Kahn was arrested after Diallo accused him of attacking
her when she went to clean his room in May 2011, prosecutors later
dropped the charges, saying they'd developed concerns about Diallo's
credibility. Strauss-Kahn had claimed the encounter was consensual.
However, Diallo later filed a civil suit against Strauss-Kahn, who'd
tried unsuccessfully to claim that he had diplomatic immunity from the

The Atlanta Falcons defeated the New Orleans Saints 23-13 last night
(November 29th) in Atlanta, in a game that saw Saints quarterback Drew Brees
throw five interceptions for the first time in his career and end his
NFL-record streak of throwing touchdown passes in 54 consecutive games.
Brees finished 28 of 50 for 341 yards. Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan
went 18 of 33 for 165 yard with one touchdown.
MEDIATION FAILS IN NHL TALKS:
Mediation didn't help in the NHL talks, with federal mediators saying
Thursday (November 29th) that after two days of their involvement in the
negotiations between the league and the players' union, the two sides
were no closer to an agreement that would end the lockout. It's not
known what will happen next, as the possibility that the entire season
will be lost continues to grow. So far, games have already been canceled
through December 14th, and the New Year's Day Winter Classic and
All-Star weekend wiped out.

MEN'S MAGAZINE'S 'DEMEANING' FACEBOOK IMAGE BANNED
An Australian men's magazine, Zoo Weekly, that posted a controversial
image to Facebook has been censored by the country's Advertising
Standards Bureau due to the image's "demeaning" nature. The picture
depicts a woman in a bikini -- with her top half on the left side, and
her bottom half on the right -- and poses the question: "Left or right?
But you've got to tell us how you came to that decision." The Ad Bureau
said, "The image, disturbing nature of having a disembodied woman and
the offensive, clearly sexist and even abusive nature of some responses
on a page being used to advertise this product should not be allowed.
Both the pictures, the questions that are posed and the responses are
regularly demeaning and unacceptable to women." The magazine's publisher
said the image isn't an advertisement, rather it is editorial material
that is meant to "engage [male readers] with content that doesn't
require too much thought." The image has been removed, but screen-caps

NASA: THE WORLD IS NOT ENDING ON 12/21/2012: At a recent
press conference, NASA scientists addressed rumors surrounding the Mayan
calendar. Scientists say people misinterpret the end of a certain cycle
on the calendar to mean the world will end on December 21st, 2012, and
that Mayan scholars say the Mayans would not have interpreted the date
to signal the apocalypse. Scientists addressed popular rumors such as: a
rogue planet will collide with earth and kill everyone, and the danger
of killer solar flares. Scientists say neither of those issues are a
concern, and that the greatest threat to Earth in the foreseeable future
is from the human race itself. (Huffington Post)
WOMEN PREFER THIN MEN TO MACHO MEN, STUDY SHOWS:
For a new study, scientists from the University of Petoria in South
Africa photographed a group of male volunteers in their underwear and
then measured the men's body fat, testosterone levels, and immune system
responses. The photographs were shown to different groups of women, and
scientists found that women unconsciously see fatness or thinness as
indicators of a man's immune response and attractiveness, while
masculinity was not linked to either of those traits. Scientists say
this means a masculine jaw and chiseled abs aren't always what women are
looking for, at least consciously, when choosing a male mate. (Fox News)

HOLIDAY WORK PARTIES MAKE WORKERS SICK?
In a recent survey of more than two-thousand American workers,
64-percent say they have either called in sick, or know someone who has
done so the day after a holiday office party. The reason: hangovers.
Half of the people who said they went to work the day after the party
said they were hungover or knew someone who was. Fifty-five percent of
those who went to work admitted to checking-out mentally, and some
admitted to putting off work or leaving work early the day after a
holiday office party. (Fox News)
FOUR WAYS TO COMBAT A HANGOVER (Fox News)
1) Stay Hydrated.
The main problem when you have a hangover? The alcohol you drank
dehydrated you. So, you are left feeling thirsty, sleepy and even
light-headed. Replenish some of that lost moisture with lots of water.
2) Eat Bananas.
This will replace some of the potassium and magnesium that you lost.
Lack of magnesium is linked to fatigue and loss of appetite.Bananas will
also ease nausea, because they act as a natural antacid.
3) Ginger. Grind up some ginger. This root will soothe your stomach. You can eat it raw, drink it in tea - or take capsules.
Studies show this green vegetable breaks down alcohol in your system.
So make sure to eat some with your dinner before a night out.
WHICH TECH COMPANIES DOMINATED BLACK FRIDAY?
Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over now, so which tech companies had
the best luck with consumers? According to Apple sales figures, Apple
iPads sold better than Android tablets. For gaming-- the Wii U sold-out
completely from retailers despite having less-than stellar reviews. The
Microsoft Surface may have suffered the most - while Apple stores saw
customsters purchasing 17.2-items-per-hour, Microsoft stores sold only
3.5-items-per-hour in sales. (Ask Men)

EIGHT WAYS TO HANDLE THE HOLIDAY BLUES (The Frisky)
1) Make your own traditions.
Don't be afraid to celebrate how you want to celebrate, whether that
means replacing old traditions with new ones, or adding some new
traditions to your current holiday schedule.
2) Help someone out. However you choose to it, helping other people is guaranteed to give you a boost of positive energy.
3) Free yourself from obligations that don't feel right to you.
Take a step back from the things that you've always done and reassess
if they are actually what you want to be doing. Make sure you're
spending your precious time, energy, and money in the way you want to,
and don't be afraid to change your roles. People will understand.
4) Get away.
Winter weather and being stuck indoors can spark one of the worst
feelings in the world: stagnancy. To combat this, introduce some new
scenery in your life. Just spending a day wandering around a small town
just outside your city can be enough to break your tired routine and
5) Reconnect with people. Set up a weekly
happy hour with coworkers or invite a couple of friends over to watch a
movie. If that feels like too much, write a letter to a far-away family
member. No matter how you do it, reinforcing your connections with
people will help you feel less alone.
6) Get some sun. In the
winter time, even though the sun is frequently hard to spot between
weather and less daylight you can still reap the benefits of some
sunshine. The sun's invisible rays can penetrate through weather! Give
yourself five or ten minutes before work or on your lunch break to walk
around outside and get some air - you'll feel better.
7) Go to the library.
Books are a great way to get you out of your own head and your own
world. Take advantage of the crappy weather by curling up with a
blanket, a hot cup of tea, and a stack of new reading material.
8) Give yourself a break.
If your holiday schedule could be described as "Go! Go! Go!," give
yourself permission to stop every once in awhile. Take a breath, eat a
piece of fudge, and remember: if you want to take care of other people,
you've gotta take care of yourself first.

WATER COOLER TALK
Should Fast Food Workers Be Able to Unionize?
Fast food workers at several of the big national chains walked off the
job in New York City Thursday (November 29th), kicking off what the New York Times
described as the "biggest effort to unionize fast food workers ever
undertaken in the United States." Organizers, which include civil rights
groups, religious leaders and a service-industry union, say it's the
first time workers from different fast food chains joined forces in this
way. The workers say that what they're being paid -- about $9.00 a hour
for full-time workers in New York City -- is barely enough for the
necessities of life like food, clothing and housing, and are demanding
an hourly wage of $15, as well as the right to form a union. Supporters
say that the industry is changed and its workers are no longer mostly
teenagers, but increasingly working class adults dependent on the
paychecks for their families. The main argument against unionization is
that it will force the fast food companies to pass on costs to their
customers via higher prices.
Man Who Got Romney Face Tattoo Now Getting It Removed
A 30-year-old professional wrestler who got a five-inch-long tattoo of Mitt Romney's
"R" logo on his face during the presidential campaign and said after
Election Day that he was keeping it despite the Republican nominee's
loss has now changed his mind. Eric Hartsburg had originally told ABC
News that he didn't regret the tattoo at all, but said that's changed in
the wake of Romney's post-election remarks in a conference call with
donors that President Obama
won because he gave, quote, "gifts"
to certain constituencies, like minority voters. Hartsburg told ABC, "I
could deal with being a part of a losing campaign, but to still stand
behind Governor Romney with the positions he's taken post-election with
the blame game instead... To be such a sore loser about it, to me I
can't walk around representing that." He said that since Romney made
those remarks, stranger have been shouting lewd comments and hissing at
him on the street. It could take up to 15 sessions over six months to a
year to get the tattoo removed, which is longer than usual because of
the blue ink in the logo. A Los Angeles doctor has agreed to do it for

whether video games are art is yes, with the Smithsonian ending a

VOTE ON PALESTINIAN STATEHOOD MOVE TODAY AT U.N.: A vote is
set to take place at the U.N. today (November 29th) on a Palestinian bid
for indirect recognition of statehood. A Palestinian resolution would
change its U.N. observer status from an "entity" to a "non-member
state," implicitly recognizing a state of Palestine. It's expected to
pass easily in the U.N. General Assembly, including with support from
more than a dozen European nations. However, the U.S., Israel, and a few
other states will vote against it. The U.S. mounted an ultimately
fruitless last-ditch effort Wednesday to get the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas
to reconsider, saying the only road to true statehood is through
reaching a peace deal with Israel. However, talks have been stalled for
two years, mainly over the issue of continued Israeli settlement
construction in the West Bank.
MODERATE GOP SENATOR COLLINS NOW SAYS CONCERNED ABOUT RICE: The potential nomination of U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice for secretary of state took a fresh blow Wednesday (November 28th) with moderate Republican Senator Susan Collins
of Maine saying she wouldn't be able to back any nomination until more
questions are answered about Rice's televised statements about the
Benghazi attack five days after it happened. Collins raised her concerns
after a meeting yesterday with Rice about Benghazi. Collins' public
statements of concern come after Republican Senators John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte
have led a sustained effort against Rice over her initial comments that
the deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, was spurred
by a protest over an anti-Islam video. She has said she was relying on
talking points from the intelligence community. Rice and acting CIA
Director Michael Morell have held two days of private meetings
with Republican senators in hopes of easing their concerns, but it
appears to have backfired.

REPORT: SEA LEVELS RISING FASTER THAN PROJECTED:
New satellite measurements suggest that sea levels are rising around
the world some 60 percent faster than the most recent projections from
the U.N.'s climate change panel in 2007. The new report from European
researchers found that sea levels are rising at an annual rate of 0.12
inches, faster than the estimate of 0.08 inches. The rise in sea levels
is believed to be driven by glacier melt due to climate change, as well
as thermal expansion, which is the expansion of ocean water as it warms.
In gauging the increase in global temperatures, however, the new
research found it corresponding closely with the climate change panel's
estimates, finding that warming is happening by about 0.28 degrees
Fahrenheit per decade.
EGYPT SENTENCES KORAN-BURNING PASTOR, ANTI-ISLAM FILMMAKER, OTHERS TO DEATH: An Egyptian court has sentenced Koran-burning Florida pastor Terry Jones and seven other people who are all Coptic Christians to death for their involvement or relation to the anti-Islam film, Innocence of Muslims, that sparked riots across the Muslim world two months ago. Among the seven is Nakoula Basseley Nakoula,
the Egyptian-American man who made the film and is currently serving

IVANKA TRUMP DENIES INTERVENTION WITH DAD OVER OBAMA BASHING: Ivanka Trump went on Twitter Wednesday (November 28th) to deny a recent New York Daily News story that she and her two brothers staged an intervention of sorts with their father, Donald Trump, in mid-October to try to get him to stop bashing President Obama.
According to the story, the Trump siblings told their father that his
attacks on the president were hurting his image. Trump himself denied
the story and Ivanka tweeted yesterday, "I totally respect
@realDonaldTrump's opinions & rights to articulate his views, which
is what I would have told @nydailynews if they'd called me to fact check
their false story." Ivanka's brother, Donald Jr., also slammed
the report on Monday, tweeting, "This article is nonsense, never

STEROID-ERA STARS BONDS, CLEMENS, SOSA ON HALL OF FAME BALLOT: Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Sammy Sosa,
three of the biggest names of baseball's steroids era, all of whom were
tainted by accusations that they used performance-enhancing drugs,
appear for the first time this year on the Hall of Fame ballot, which
was released yesterday (November 28th). Members of the Baseball Writers
Association of America, who vote on the candidates, will have to decide
if they want to weigh the suspected doping against the players' on-field
accomplishments, and if so, by how much. The task will be a big one
with these three players: Bonds is the all-time home run champion and
won a record seven MVP awards; Clemens won a record seven Cy Young
awards and is ninth on the all-time wins list; and Sosa ranks eighth in
career home runs. Still, recent history isn't a good omen for them, as Mark McGwire and Rafael Palmeiro
haven't been voted in despite having Hall of Fame-caliber playing
records because of the doping questions surrounding them. Voting results
will be announced in January.
NHL TALKS RESUME WITH MEDIATOR HELP:
NHL talks resumed for the first time in a week on Wednesday (November
28th), but this time negotiators for the league and the players were
joined by federal mediators for the first time. Talks are set to
continue today. It's hoped the mediators will be able to help end the
lockout in enough time to have a shortened NHL season. All games through
December 14th have already been canceled, as well as the New Year's Day
Winter Classic and All-Star Weekend.

OFF BEAT BRIEFS
WOMAN TO 9-1-1: 'I TRAPPED THE BURGLAR IN A BOX':
A woman in Brunswick, Ohio called 9-1-1 to report that a burglar had
broken into her house but that she was able to trap him in a box. When
officers arrived at her home on Hadcock Road the woman showed officers
the box and said that she forced the intruder into the box until, of
course, he jumped out. Police found no one at the home but did find a
bottle of booze and a glass in her kitchen. The woman claimed she had
"just started drinking." Police cited her for misuse of 911.

MAN ARRESTED FOR DWI AFTER DWI HEARING:
A man in Freeport, New York who was on his way out of a DWI hearing was
arrested for the exact same charge as he was driving away. 59-year-old
Michael Nolan was leaving the court, where he was facing an aggravated
DWI charge, when court officers noticed he smelled like alcohol. The
district attorney had an officer follow him, and just a few feet down
the road he was pulled over and arrested on a DWI charge. (UPI)
PHONE WEDDING IS VALID ACCORDING TO MARYLAND COURT:
A man who teleconferenced into his wedding back in 1993, in the
Democratic Republic of Congo was, in fact, legally married according to a
court ruling in Maryland. The state's Court of Special Appeals was
ruling on a divorce between Noel Tshiani and Marie Louise Tshiani, when
the marriage's validity came into question. Noel argued that his 1993
wedding was never valid because he wasn't physically present for the
ceremony and had his cousin stand in for him. Maryland's state marriage
law doesn't bar the state from recognizing a ceremony "where one party
participates by proxy." An attorney representing Marie Louise said, "The
opinion by the court makes it clear that the public policy of Maryland
is very much to be in support of marriage, regardless of how it's done."
Marie Louise has been awarded nearly $6,000 a month in alimony, child
support and other payments. (Baltimore Sun)
NYU STUDENT REPLIES ALL TO 40,000 CLASSMATES:
An e-mail sent from New York University's Bursar's Office to nearly
40,000 students was sent using the wrong listserv, which allowed
students to 'reply all.' The student who ended up making the first
'reply all' did it entirely on accident. Max Wiseltier meant to forward
the e-mail to his mom but accidentally sent it to everyone when he
clicked 'reply all.' Max realized his mistake and promptly apologized
with a second 'reply all.' Once students realized that they were all on
the same e-mail, many decided to chime in on the conversation. One
student wrote, "So how is everyone today?" Another wrote, to everyone,
"Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses, or 1 horse sized duck?"
The string of 'reply all' messages that followed has been categorized
into one event: NYU's "replyallcalypse." An employee at NYU's Student
Resource Center later came forward to apologize for the e-mail, which he
says is his fault. He wrote, "Hi everyone. I'm the culprit behind the
Lyris blunder. I was assisting the Bursar with an email message and in
populating one of the SRC Listserves did not realize the list I was
using was one that allowed for responses and thus the 'replyallcalypse.'
I take full responsibility for this blunder and offer my sincere
apologies for the frustrating situation that was created." (Yahoo)
NO ONE GOT SHOT, STABBED, SLASHED OR MURDERED IN NYC ON MONDAY:
The NYPD announced on Tuesday (November 27th) that there were no
shootings, stabbings or murders in New York City between 10:30 p.m. on
Sunday night (November 25th) and 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Police
say they can't remember the last time that happened. According to
reports, there was one non-violent gunshot on Monday when a teen
accidentally shot himself in the thigh. (New York Daily News)
OREGON DAD USES SCANTILY CLAD DAUGHTER TO SELL CAR:
A father in Oregon who was trying to sell his 1977 Datsun decided the
best way to go about taking photos was to have his 20-year-old daughter
pose seductively, and scantily clad, with the vehicle. The photos
showcase Lexxa Ridley with her dad's car in various poses and a couple
of outfits. Kim Ridley told AdWeek that he has very few regrets,
explaining, "If I felt bad about it, I wouldn't do it." (MsnNOW)

MEN THINK EATING MEAT MAKES THEM MORE MANLY:
Researchers from Bellarmine University in Kentucky say a study reveals
men associate eating meat with manhood, power and masculinity. For the

men expressed more favorable attitudes toward eating meat, denied animal
suffering, and believed it was human destiny to eat meat. (Daily Mail)

EROTIC FICTION IS OUT-SELLING CLASSIC LITERATURE:
Since October, books in the erotic fiction category have received
four-thousand-percent more searches than The Man Booker Prize winning
books, which are hailed as quality works of fiction in London. Play.com
reports that erotic novels account for 14-percent of all books sold on
its site, and weekly the site receives 100-thousand searchers for the
first Fifty Shades of Grey book. (Daily Mail)
WOMEN ARE POSTING HOLIDAY WISH LISTS ON PINTEREST:
A new survey of about three-thousand women reveals that one-in-four use
the website Pinterest to post items they want others to buy them, and
60-percent said they will use the site for holiday gift ideas this year.
The survey was conducted by social network SheSpeaks, and 26-percent of
those surveyed said they'd use Pinterest to do research on gifts they
are already considering buying for others. (Buzzfeed)
SCENTS CAN SPUR HOLIDAY SPENDING?
New research shows that along with lighting and music, certain scents
can inspire shoppers to spend more money. Washington State University
found that simple scents, like pine or citrus, are powerful motivators
for spending because they don't require much mental processing. This
allows the shopper's brain to focus on shopping. For the experiment,
researchers concocted one simple scent and one complex scent and found
that consumers who shopped while smelling the simple scent spent on
average 20-percent more money than those that smelled the complex scent,
or no scent at all. (Huffington Post)
HAVING A DIVERSE GROUP OF FACEBOOK FRIENDS CAUSES STRESS:
Researchers from the University of Edinburgh's Business School have
found that having a large group of Facebook friends increases the risk
of anxiety in users. Researchers say that on average, people are
Facebook friends with people in seven-different social circles, and it
becomes stressful when users try to present themselves in a way that
pleases everyone. Of three-hundred people surveyed, more than half of
parents said they follow their children on Facebook. Researchers say the
stress becomes more of a problem as older people join Facebook because
their expectations may be very different from those of younger users. (Daily Mail)

EIGHT GREAT PLACES TO HIDE HOLIDAY GIFTS FROM KIDS (The Stir)
1) The Attic.
It's dusty. It's scary. It might be impossible for the kids to even get
up there. Just be sure to store your gifts in a big black garbage bag
or two to keep the dust off!
2) Your Underwear Drawer. No kid (especially boys) is going to want to dig through your underwear drawer. Or even worse, dad's drawer.
Suitcases. Kids will never suspect this one! Whether you have small
duffel bags or huge suitcases, hide as many of your gifts as you can in
these travel necessities. Just make sure you're not going on any trips
before the holidays!
4) Right in Front of Their Eyes. The best
hiding place is right out in the open. Well not completely. But store
your gifts in crates or large boxes, and label them with boring,
frightening things that will terrify your children. Grab a Sharpie and
write "Math Study Guides" or "Tax Receipts 2007" on them.
5) The Garbage.
Get yourself an extra large garbage can and keep it in your garage. Put
your presents in a large black garbage bag and then keep it in the can.
Just be careful NOT to put that can out on Garbage Days!
6) Under Your Bed.
Put your gifts in large black garbage bags and hide them under your
bed. Too obvious, you say? Okay, then add a number of decoys. Fill a
handful of bags with old clothes and stick those under the bed too,
surrounding the actual gifts.
7) In the Hamper. If you have a
large hamper, stick the presents at the bottom and cover with dirty
clothes. Alternatively, do the same thing in your closet with a large
box, but cover with a mound of old dirty clothes.
8) Your Car.
Keep what you can in the locked trunk of your car. As long as your kids
don't look back there while you're out shopping, they'll never think to

WATER COOLER TALK
Obama and Romney Have Lunch Date Today at White House
will be at the White House today (November 29th) for a private lunch with President Obama
a little over three weeks after his former rival beat him in the
presidential election. Obama had promised in his Election Night victory
speech to get together with Romney and consider the former Republican
presidential nominee's ideas, saying, "In the weeks ahead, I also look
forward to sitting down with Governor Romney to talk about where we can
work together to move this country forward." Obama repeated those
intentions in a November 14th press conference, saying, "There are
certain aspects of Governor Romney's record and his ideas that I think
could be very helpful." He praised Romney's leadership of the 2002
Winter Olympics and said that during the presidential campaign, he'd
agreed with some of Romney's ideas on jobs and growth. White House
spokesman Jay Carney
said Wednesday that there's no formal agenda
for the lunch, which won't be open to the press. But when asked if
Obama was considering Romney for a Cabinet position, Carney flatly said
'HoboJacket' Website That Donates Clothing to Homeless Getting Flak
A website started by two MIT students called HoboJacket that
asks for money to help donate clothes to the homeless is being
criticized, with some saying it's offensive. The site works by asking
for monetary donations that will go toward buying jackets bearing the
logo of the college you hate most. Those jackets are then given to the
homeless, who the site says will show, quote, "the true value" of your
rival college's degrees. The site states, "Donate your rival college's
jackets and shirts to the unfortunate, because it's terribly unfortunate
that people actually went to that other college." The criticism
has led HoboJacket's founders to consider shutting it down, but there
are some defending it, who note that more than 660 jackets have already
been donated to the needy through it. As of last night, the site no
longer appeared to be up.
Plus-Sized Store Mannequins: Good Idea or Not?
News reported on a debate that broke out on the social networking site
Reddit after someone posted a photo of a very large plus-sized store
mannequin, with some saying it's a great idea to have mannequins that
reflect how the nearly 70 percent of Americans who are overweight or
obese actually look, while others said it's a bad idea, worried that,
quote, "obese will become the new normal." ABC reports that despite the
fact that the average American woman is now a size 14, the typical store
mannequin is a size 4 or 6. It cites Ed Gribbin, president of mannequin
manufacturing company Alvanon, for why that likely is: "There is an
ingrained mentality of merchants that clothing in smaller sizes looks
more appealing -- it's also why runway models are so small." Body image
expert and Harvard Medical School assistant professor of psychology has a
related take, telling ABC, "Walking into a store and seeing nice
clothes on a mannequin that has a body type similar to your own could be
a huge boost for self-esteem, but it might also backfire. A lot of
fashion is aspirational, such that people hope they will look like the
mannequin if they buy the clothes. In our society, most people would
rather be thin than obese." But things may be changing, with Gribbin
saying that some retailers are beginning to use larger mannequins in
response to customer feedback.
KFLAG COUNTRY MUSIC UPDATE
Details are emerging behind the cancellation of Little Big Town
's two concerts this week as well as a scheduled appearance on The Tonight Show
last night (Tuesday, November 27th). The brother-in-law of group member Kimberly Schlapman
was killed last Wednesday (November 21st) in Franklin, Tennessee after
being hit head-on by a drunk driver. Funeral services for Thomas Schlapman
were held yesterday in Virginia.
ABC affiliate WKRN reports the man who allegedly killed Schlapman was
in court yesterday morning for DUI and vehicle assault charges stemming
from an incident in July.
According to police, Gregory Powers
allegedly tried to run over a bartender at a Nashville area bar after he was told to leave because he was too impaired.
Powers faces a vehicular homicide charge for the fatal collision with Schlapman. He has a court date on December 18th.
Little Big Town will resume their tour on Saturday (December 1st) in Charlotte, North Carolina.
- Little Big Town is climbing the charts with "Tornado," the title track of their latest album.
- It follows up their career-first Number One hit, "Pontoon."
It's no secret that one of Taylor Swift
favorite hobbies is baking, especially around the holidays, but she
doesn't necessarily indulge in her homemade confections. Taylor tells us
she works hard to keep herself thin, so she has to restrain herself
when it comes to the foods she loves. "I bake and I give stuff away.
I don't like bake and eat a dozen cupcakes by myself. You know, I have
to kind of watch it a little bit. I hate the idea of dieting. I hate it.
Oh my God, I hate it, but, you know, I just try not to eat like three
times my weight in food, and then I exercise all the time so that I
don't have to diet that much. I hate exercising but I do it all the time
cause I love eating more than I hate exercising. It balances out."
Taylor has been in Australia promoting her new Red
CD. On Monday (November 26th), she performed on the Today
show there, where she sang the album's title track and another tune called "I Knew You Were Trouble."
's new memoir, Dream More
is clearing up all sorts of rumors that have followed the legendary
singer throughout her career, including the one that she is gay. That
speculation stems from Dolly's close friendship with her assistant and
childhood pal Judy Ogle
Dolly says that she is not gay, telling Nightline
correspondent JuJu Chang
that people "just think that you just can't be that close to somebody.
Judy and I have been best friends since we were like in the third and
fourth grade. We still just have a great friendship and relationship and
I love her as much as I love anybody in the whole world, but we're not
Dolly compared her relationship with Judy to that of Oprah Winfrey
's with her BFF, Gayle King
She also addressed her reported infidelity in her 46-year marriage to husband Carl Dean
Dolly said, "I've been accused of being involved with every man I'm
ever seen with or worked with. Maybe I have, maybe I ain't. I never tell
if I have. But you know people (are) always saying that."

's new holiday album, On This Winer's Night
, includes 12 songs. Eleven of those are the trio's take on classics and one -- the title track -- was co-written by Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood
and Charles Kelley
It was Lady A's first time to write a Christmas song, but as Charles tells us, they enjoyed conquering new territory. "It
was a challenge, but it was a fun challenge because we started talking
about all the different things we associate with Christmas and it's so
many different things, you know -- there's the religious aspect, there's
the family aspect, there's just the fun riding around and picking up
Christmas gifts and just that spirit that you just . . . all that
excitement and energy that you feel from that, and so one thing I was
really proud of is we kind of tackled all those little topics in that
one song. For me, it puts me right in that spot of Christmas Eve with
your family. It's like, on this winter's night you look back on the year
we've had and that night is that night to be thankful for everything,
and you're excited to wake up in the morning and see what Santa brought you."
